Steinway K52 upright piano
Advantages: Quality of materials and construction. Tone quality. Disadvantages: Large size. Cost.
...the many piano manufacturers.
Steinway pianos are famous for their quality of tone, and this applies across the range to all of their grands and uprights. The greater the string length the better the sound - in theory, so the large K-52 should be a great sounding instrument. The tone depends on other factors such as the soundboard, the general resonance of the case, the condition of the strings and the correct settings of the action. The strings ... ...to put right.
The Steinway pianos have always been among the best that money can buy, and they have always been built to a standard and not to a price. My piano may look a little dated with the inlaid carved wood, and the carefully covered holes which originally held the candle-holders. A piano which has reached the grand age of 115 years will certainly have had work done on it, and the quality of the restoration work affects the way the instrument ...

One of the best piano's ever made.
Advantages: Perfect Disadvantages: There are no disadvantages
The Steinway and Sons piano Model D is an icon and a tribute to their ingenious minds quest for everlasting quality. The Steinway model D is recognised worldwide as a breakthrough in pianomaking. They have been used and played by some of the great giants of the piano such as Sviatoslav Richter, Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli and Emil Gilels. The quality of sound that is possible to achieve on this great piece of engineering is endless. A master pianist ... ...the piano it self. The Steinway and Sons Model measures in at 9 ft. length and about 3-5 ft in width. Recommendations for purchasing were that such auspices like Richter and Pollini who played these pianos meant that they must be of superb quality and I found out that they were, also everyone I know who is a musician like myself recommends these pianos expensive as they are. ...

Ultimate uprights - but overpriced
Advantages: About as good as uprights come Disadvantages: Ridiculous pricing - more than most grands
...basically the same as the Steinway grand’s in many ways, with an excellent touch and feel. The advantage of having an upright is simply the space saved. If space is a problem, this has to be the ultimate upright piano series from which to choose.
The sacrifice of moving from grand to upright is the sound. Though this is in my opinion one of the best upright pianos, it still can’t come anywhere near to a grand. The range of sounds and the tone is ...

The most versatile Steinway
Advantages: Combines the attributes of a top piano, with a reasonable size Disadvantages: Still a little pricey for most people!
My personal favourite in the Steinway family is the model B. It is a happy medium between getting a rich full-bodied sound, and space. The uprights, though super instruments tend to be a little weak, as do some of the smaller grand pianos. The Steinway model D (as I have said in my review) tends to be a little overpowering in enclosed spaces. The model B has all the sound attributes associated with a Steinway, but is much more suited to reasonable ...

Privileged to own such a mighty beast
Advantages: It's the ultimate piano Disadvantages: None, cost maybe
The Steinway Model D has been the acknowledged #1 piano for over a hundred years and with very good reason.
The evenness of touch over the 88 keys is quite matchless, and each department moves into the next with no discernable difference. The bass and the tenor reaches make the hairs stand up on the back of my neck time after time after time.
This is apparently due to the double crown in the soundboard. The totally remarkable action flatters your ... ...a positive pleasure to play as your fingers find new levels of skill.
Above all I find it's a piano I want to come back to time and time again and has rekindled my desire to practice and improve.
The ability to play from pppp to rfffz is quite mind-blowing and it is so easy to make parts in the middle ring out while those below and above merely accompany.
In short it really is the pianist's piano and while I've played Bechsteins, Bluthners, Bosendorfers ...
