My boyfriend whos a serving soldier bought a copy of this book after reading about it in soldier magazine.
Having had a brief flick through it, i requested it when he was done. Being a slow reader he bought me my own copy @ £7.99 from waterstones. Not all of them carry it and he did have to pre-order it.
the language level is not for the feint hearted, but there are some seriously funny parts that have had me laughing out loud. I am not finished with it yet, but so far it has kept me amused and up reading for some time after i shoud have been fast asleep.
Its listed as a fiction book of a 16 year old lad starting out his career in the mid 80's with the army, though i feel its quite possible that much of it i borne from the actual experience of the authors than of pure fiction .
Starting out from the very start at entering the careers office just for something to doin the school holidays, to going to military collage for the royal corps of signals, generally messing up, getting grilled , and the extensive range of swear words available.
the recruits working their way through various exercises, and pretty much messing it all up. Only hope is that someone else did a worse job and they would get the bigger grilling.
The glossary at the back of the book reads like a military dictionary with more military interpritations, some of which are seriously funny.
It does come with a warning of being an advanced level british army swear manual :D
I will update when i have actually finished the book, but if you need a giggle it's certainly good for that.
The magazine reviews went as such 'laugh out loud funny' soldier magazine 'FHM approved' 'hilarous' the big issue
as well as various reviews of people who bought the 1st edition of the book which are on the 1st page of the book, so you can see what they thought of the book too.
I cant say how it compares to books by the same author as its only just come ot on the 10th sept, so looks like that will be a stocking filler for the other half :)
