Pics2Phones is manufactured by a company based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire called Datex and it is a Windows application. With the software you can easily enhance and personalize your pictures for your mobile, you can resize them, change colours, add borders and much more. Basically Pics2Phones allows you to transfer good quality pictures to your phone instead of you being stuck with the generally low quality images that you phones camera will produce.
What Phones can You use with Pics2Phones ================================ You can use the software in connection with any mobile phone and indeed you only need to buy the software once - you don't need the software for every phone in your household - currently Pics2phones can be used with nearly 600 different mobile devices and this is constantly updated. I have owned the software now for about 2 months and to update the phone list it is literally the click of a button (you must be online at the time).
Built into the software is each mobiles image sizes and resolutions, so you don't have to mess about finding out these details for each phone you want to use the software with. All you need to do is pick the phone from a list and away you go.
The Tools =======
There are many tools available to enhance your photograph and change the size etc. The main ones are as follows:
Brightness Zoom Crop Contrast Saturation. Invert Flip Rotate These tools are all extremely simple to use and most are literally the click of a button.
For anyone who has used any image editing software at all you will find this software a doddle. However, my partner uses the software and she has little or no (don't tell her I said that) computer experience at all. The software is very simple.
Transferring Pictures ==============
Pics2Phones provides two ways to transfer pictures to your phone. If you have a data cable, you can simply upload your phone wallpaper to your mobile device. Pics2Phones also has support for WAP transfers. Simply use Pics2Phones to upload your mobile pictures from your PC to the Pics2Phones web server, and download the image into your cell phone. The WAP file transfer process takes less than a minute, and there is no charge for using the company's web server.
The Design ========
As I have already said the software is very simple to use and has been designed in such a way that even the complete novice could use it. The software is very clearly laid out and has the usual structure of any Windows program. The buttons available are big and evident - everything is available that you could need on the main screen. There is a menu system also just like you would expect from any windows software with drop down menus.
For the novice user there is a 1,2,3 system which can be used very easily. This 1,2,3 system includes the 3 steps you need to go to do a basic send to you phone - I have used this and although you cannot get into the complex functions using this method it is adequate to send you pictures to your phone.
The help system is very good and user friendly - it is better if you are on line whilst you are using the help but the help system can be downloaded so you don't have to be on line.
The costs =======
You can download a demo version of Pics2Phones from either www.pics2phones.com or from most download sites like www.download.com. However, every picture that you create using the demo version has a splash of "Specimen" or something like that so this would be no use. You can however buy the proper version (again from either of the mentioned sources) the cost is $19.99 (approx 14 quid).
Support ======
As I have said the help system is very good and very clear - it also includes sample videos of how to perform the functions within the software.
However, you are also eligible for email support once you have purchased the software. So far I have only had one problem (an installation problem that was my fault) and the support team responded to me within around 12 hours.
System Requirement ===============
Listed on the www.pics2phones website are both the minimum requirements and the recommended requirements. I have taken the following information directly from there:
Minimum PC Specification 800Mhz CPU; 256MB RAM; DirectX; 45MB Disk Space; Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP, 2003.
Recommended PC Specification 2Ghz CPU; 512MB RAM; DirectX; 100MB Disk Space; Windows 2000, XP, 2003; Broadband Connection
Why not Just Use Something Like Photoshop ==================================
Packages like Photoshop (whilst it is fantastic and I use it on a weekly basis) are expensive to buy (I know that there are free imaging editing software packages around but read on) but even if you have them and are familiar with using them (a novice user may not be) Pics2phones is the only software that I am aware of that includes screen sizes etc for all mobile on the market and includes a way to transfer the image directly to your phone. This is my main reason for choosing Pics2Phones.
Would I recommend the software ========================
Yes is the simple answer - as I am aware and as I have just stated above, Pics2Phones is the only piece of software available at the minute that actually performs this function in its entirety.
Check out the website, download the demo version and decide for yourself but it definitely gets the thumbs up from me.
