...small one.

I spoke to my account manager a few times by telephone. I found him very helpful, non-judgmental ... ...quoted from other companies and told him what i was looking for and he seemed happy to offer me just that.
To give you a clearer 'picture' (haha) we borrowed £19,000 over 15 years. the repayments were calculated with an APR of 8.9% making our payment £234 per month.
The guy made sure we were in a position to pay the money back which included should anything going wrong.
We delt with this company last year and have had no complaints with them at all.....until now but it's only a small one.

We told him what we wanted to pay off and he made arrangements to pay the companies direct which saved us a lot of hassle. The remaining money was paid into our bank acount by BACS.
When we agreed how much we wanted to borrow we had to wait for 14days before doing anything else. Some sort of legal thing that the company has to do. they are not allowed to contact yo u in any way at all.
We took out the PPI which i have since realised we are paying interest on. The total for the PPI is £5,000 but it only covers us for the first 5 years of the loan. The one thing that this loan company does that the others doesn't is they pay out if you don't claim!!!
Eg of this is year 3 you get a 25% refund, year 4 you get a 20% refund and year 5 you get a 15% refund. But note - the % i have quoted on the PPI which covers the loan - not the loan itself.
Downside to having this loan are
1 - you cannot over pay. I called to see if we could up our payments to maybe clear it off sooner but i was told that if we did, the minimum amount we could pay would be 3 months payments (almost £800) and you are only allowed to do this a certain amount of times over the term of the loan.
2 - The interest rates are variable. Our payments have gone from £234 to £256 in 9 months with the rates rise. This might affect people who don't have a fixed rate mortgage as your mortgage and loan will rise.
3 - Ther eis a fee which has to be paid if you change your martgage offer. It currently stands at £250. This means that if we keep doing a 2 year fixed rate mortgage then we need to pay £250 every 2 years. this is because they would become the main holders on the property and it saves the land registry having to keep changing it's records (so i'm told)
4 - you can't take a payment break on your mortgage if you have a loan with picture. If you did you would have to pay the same £250 so it kind of defeats the purpose. The is for the reason above again.
Overall i am please with the service i got from Picture. The sold me the product i was looking for and, like any other product, didn't tell me of the down sides.
Our settlement figure on the £19,000 loan as it stands today is £23,398 and we have only paid 9 months so it's not too bad.
I would recommend them as a secured loan company. The interest rates depend on your credit background but vary from 7.8% upwards. Ours is currently at 9.5% but i think the highest i have seen is 13.9%.
They are one of the nicer companies and certainly more understanding. Believe me i have delt with a few. My only advice is ask lots of questions and read the small print.
Service from picture is ok when you initially get in touch with them, and the promptness is okay but please think twice before getting a loan with them if you are thinking of moving to a bigger house or in fact changing anything at all about your mortgage. we have had nothing but problems with Picture since we got a secured loan from them. We have a loan for £36,000 and were more or less told that if we didnt get the payment protection (a separate ... ...to a bigger house, but picture said that they wanted all the free proceeds that we got after we had repaid our original mortgage. when I pointed out to them that this wasnt in their literature or the agreement, they said that this was a new rule that they had because of the current economic situation. Even though we were moving to a more expensive house and had never missed or been late with a payment, picture decided to change the rules to suit ...

Advantages: Speed Disadvantages: They do not tell the truth
Picture Loans. Please please anyone who wants to take out a loan with Picture, please take note.
Firstly do not believe anything they tell you. I was told by thier representative "Luke" that Picture do not charge future charges if you decide to settle early. This conversation was recorded by Picture themselves but has now mysteriously dissapeared. I was told that the payment protection option would cover me for 60 months of my 300 month agreement ... ...them.
I have complained to Picture on many occasions but they will not tell the truth and admit that they have acted Unethically. I took a £50000 secured loan, I have made 6 payments and my early settlement figure as of September 2007 is £62,425.26. Is this what you want to happen to you? Picture Loans WILL rip you off and lie. Please if you need money, then go through your own bank. ...

Advantages: can apply online or on hard copy. Excellent rates for higher amounts borrowed. Fast decision, usually Disadvantages: Postcodes are vital!
I needed some money - I thought the best thing to do for me was to consolidate anything I owed, and just have one amount to pay each month.
I was not really thinking of doing a loan until I was in Tesco and i happened to see one of their loan leaflets- it's quite distinctive and has a shopping trolley on the front. Anyway, the leaflet said it was even cheaoer to apply on line and ever one for getting on line and exlporing, I gave it a go.
SIgning on to the Tesco websie is easy. Tesco.com will find you on the site. Click on "personal finance", and a full product range will come up, which includes insurance and loans.
Click on "loans". You get a picture of a calculator and one of a lady wondering what to do. If you want to see how much a month an amount will cost, now is the time to enter the information and the monthly payments ...
responses were similar.
So we took out our consolidation loan with Picture Finance (whop btw are a fantastic company!) and they wrote cheques for the creditors. We sent these off, also called MBNA to inform them that it had been done - all sorted - so we thought....................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We later received a letter saying thanks for your payment of x amount we now require the remainder of y amount???? So we called them. They claim no figure was agreed. It was we explained. After hours and hours and hours on the phone and letters to them from them, call centres that when you explain the situation they simply say - i undertsand mrs XXX do you have a credit or debit card to pay the remainder???? ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! to say i have screamed in frustratrion, been extremeley stressed out, upset, sleepless nights ...
Advantages: Fun, easy to lend, makes you feel good, can earn better interest than a bank sometimes. Disadvantages: Can lose your money, your money is tied up - I mean it's tied up for years (or forever)
Zopa is a company based in the UK which offers an alternative way to make money for those who want to make money, or an alternative way to get a loan for those who want to get a loan. It's a bit like ebay, but for loans.
How it works ? borrowers
You can apply for a loan either by creating a listing, which is effectively your chance to plead to some lenders for their hard earned cash by appealing to their kind heartedness. If you put a picture up showing you're a good looking girl, or write an amusing yet convincing argument about why you want the loan then you might get a decent rate. If your case isn't good, or you've put up an ugly male picture, then you might be offered the money but at a worse rate. In reality of course people aren't going to judge people on looks and personality when it comes to lending money, I'm sure it ...
