We needed 4 new doors. One for the smallestroomunderthestairs, one for the kitchen ,one for the utility area and on for the sitting room-hall. As you may have guessed we like pine read my opps on my pine kitchen units and my pine smallestroomunderthestairs opps to find out what else we have in pine.
The builders have made my rooms look really good but there was something missing . No privacy in the smallestroomunderthestairs and no way to get to the front door.
The builder kindly knocked a hole in the wall so we could get into the hall from the sitting room so we could get to the front door. My husband and I went looking for something to fill the space we went to our favourite, most convenient D I Y store ,B & Q lots of doors there.
We found the doors we felt would complement the look of our home and wow were they cheap 14.99p in the sale so we quickly snaffled 6 of them and took them home. Looking on their web site this morning the same doors cost £37.99 at least they look identical to the ones we have.
Well stand here with me and look at my pine doors. You can see three from where I am sitting at the computer. The one to the hall at the far end of the room, that’s closed the one that’s behind me to goes into the utility area that’s open then beyond that theres the one to my smallestroomunderthestairs, that’s shut I wont take you in there today. We have another one of these doors that fills the door opening between the kitchen and the utility area. Can’t see that one from here We decided matching doors were best. to get some continuity
These doors have six panels arranged in pair’s 3 panels high 2 panels wide. Two smaller panels at the top, then four larger panels underneath them.
If storing these doors before fitting keep them flat somewhere dry and out of direct sun or artificial heating to avoid them becoming misshaped. Leave them in the packaging, which is, plastic this will avoid soiling. And spoiling
The pine the doors are made of has a forest stewardship council certificate. The F C S is a non-governmental organisation started in 1993 in response to concerns about deforestation. Woods where timber is harvested for this certificate have to have good forest managing. These doors are a fairly soft pine. Suitable as an inner door only they are not substantial enough for an outer door
The doors are a light coloured pine needing to be treated with paint or a protective stain when they are fitted. As of yet we have not treated them. I think we will just stain them we need to decide on the redecoration of the sitting room and work out which stain to use. The pinewood on these doors has several knots in it they make the wood more interesting. To be honest we are taking a break from diy as it is exhausting and work is hard at the moment. I do not want to put much stress on hubby and make him as ill as he was 4 months ago.
These doors were standard size one of them we has to shave a little of the ends to make it fit onto the door opening on our smallestroomunderthestairs These doors came without hinges or door handles we had to buy these separately As my husband was of work ill he managed to fit the doors with a friends help he did not find them too difficult to fit. He had to fit hinges in the correct places measuring very carefully. This was most difficult task on the doors where we had new doorframes fitted. It did need two people one to hold the door one to fit the hinges.
It may appear we have a lot of pine fittings, yes we have but it does not feel overdone the fittings complement each other and do not look a mismatch. Pine is one of the cheaper woods so we were trying to be economical. Pine is a fast growing soft wood we were not robbing the forests of slow growing hard woods. Thanks for reading this review I might tell you about the door handles we choose next.
