The pioneer CDJ-1000 is in a different league to any CD decks that have come before it. Vinyl Emulation is the key, for the first time you actually feel as though you are manually manipulating the CD. This gives you the opportunity, with a bit of practice of course to add a new dimension to your Mixes. Even scratching is possible with this beast.
Measuring 12.5 inches by 14.5 inches by 4.2 inches, the turntable is much larger than its famous predecessor, the CDJ-700 and heavy enough to make it feel like youve bought a proper, durable piece of kit. The first thing you notice, and the most important innovation on the CDJ-1000 is its large 206-mm platter. Made to look like a 45, complete with grooves, this touch-sensitive jog wheel allows the user to "handle" a CD. You can spin it back, find your cue point with high accuracy, and scratch without worrying about the needle jumping. Pressing the start/stop button will power up or down the CD as if it were any other turntable. It also has the option to play like a more conventional CD player with just the ttouch of a button.
For the tech heads amongst you, a few features include- variable brake and start times- allownig you to change the spped that the record accelerates and stops
reverse play- does exactly what it says on the tin.
a fully editable seamless loop- allows you to repeat a certain phrase of the music over and over again. You can also trim the loop once it is selected to make sure it is perfect.
The tempo slider works just like any other: with a maximum range of +/- 24%. You can store three hot cue points per CD, which come in very handy for finding precise points of the track when youve got to be quick. There's even a memory card slot for a MultiMediaCard that allows the user to save exact cue and loop points. A 16MB MMC can save up to 100 cue/loop points per CD for up to 10,000 discs, and if you need more than that then your carrying too many CD's around.
Of course, any self respecting DJ will tell you that vinyl is still the king. But with the availibilty of tunes via the internet, this little piece of kit will have you playing a few gems before any of your mates get them! And No, I'm not celebrating the fact that you can enlarge your record collection infinately by downloading tracks from the internet. (helps though!).
These retail for about £750, although the newer version is the one you'll probably be buying if you were to take my advice. The mk 2 includes Steinberg clean v5 software which allows you to clean and copy all your audio recordings onto cd and dvd, but I've yet to use this, so if you do, let me know how it goes. Most electrical retailers that cater for DJ's will stock these, if you want to buy online, I'd recomend the service that HTFR.com offer. Ive seen them 2nd hand on Ebay for just over £500.
A pricey bit of kit, but well worth the investment, especially as clubs are now installing them.

Alot better, you could perhaps still explain the techy bits to the non-techy minded and give a few place names that you could buy the equipment from, also give details of alternative cheaper ones... great stuff though, well done :)
