Advantages: Slim Aesthetics, 450 W RMS Power Output, Excellent Treble & Mids, Robust Build, The interface capability - SCART, Phono, S-Video and digital. Quite inexpensive at £232.00 Disadvantages: Bass slightly Honky, The blue light in the unit hits out at the eye in dark environments, which is quite irritating while watching movies.

So I fixed up an appointment with him to have a glance at his new Pioneer DCS-313, though he was hesitant at first due to a slight insecure thought when I just barged into his home & introduced myself ( I am this kind of a guy ). But he had coupled the Pioneer DCS-313 with a pair of Bose jewel cubes, which I am not including in the apparatus I am reviewing. So go get a bag of popcorn so that you can go through this detailed review.
The only thing that the Pioneer DCS-313’s Sound could not do was shattering my bones. The Test CD brought about some amazing results with the Pioneer DCS-313. The Bass tended to turn a little dry during long workouts though this does suit some types of songs but was full of moisture during movies, which was quite a relief, as dry bass tends to suck out the joy in watching a movie. The bass had a good depth & well rounded & fast enough to make you skip a heartbeat or two while listening to techno at quite high volumes on the Pioneer DCS-313 & it had enough density to jarr my ears. The delicate bass reproduction by the Pioneer DCS-313 was what quite amazed me, it just pulls out the bass from a track you thought never had bass at all. The Mids performed excellently though with a wide & zygomorphic soundstage which was pretty tall too which the mids hitting right at the centre of the Audio-Image with stunning accuracy, of course with the surround disabled. The mids here had one speciality – The transparency was so good that you can actually hear to people’s voice individually during an argument ( in the movie ), which is quite rare in systems nowadays. The highs were absolutely Brilliant in quality, the clashes & swishes during a fight ( in the movie of course ) were just Spine Chilling, Ear Piercing, Icy, Sharp as a Scalpel….. I am out of more definitions. Truly exceptional high frequency response. One reason why I think this is so is because of the consumer psychology. Like for example – Japanese like their Music systems to have lots of highs, Americans just can’t let go of Bass even for a breath & Europeans like a very well balanced sound offering less preference to Bass. So maybe the Pioneer DCS-313 was targeted at the Japanese local market & the balanced European market, though no doubt Americans will not feel let down by the Bass reproduced by the Pioneer DCS-313. “Nothing Else Matters” by Metallica sounds Heavenly on the Pioneer DCS-313 with the icy highs just freezing you until the whole song completes. On the whole the Pioneer DCS-313 is Great for Movies & well adaptable as a High-Fi, with a Good Bass, though it honks at volumes higher than 80% which is a sound level seldom reached as at that volume your windows would shatter to pieces because the Pioneer DCS-313 is very powerful at 450 W RMS which is very very loud by industry standards. Overall the sound quality is stunning & you will best enjoy it if the placements of the speakers are technically in the correct places & it also depends on the room dimensions & amount of sound absorbents in the room. Place the satellites at Face Level or higher depending on the size of Soundstage required & the Centre-Channel Driver can be placed right in between the front satellites or Overhead to get a Dropping-Sound effect during certain Scenes, but for this purpose I did advice Mr. Kepler to use the Bose jewel cube speakers he had. And the Subwoofer must be placed Behind ( for the Panasonic SCMT1 ) the audience for best Sub-Bass Performance. A [4/5] for the sound, just missed a [5/5] due to the honking problem at high volume levels. ___________________________ ***VIDEO QUALITY. [5/5]*** _____________________________
Top quality visual reproduction by the Pioneer DCS-313. Mr. Kepler Wolfgang had a Samsung 29” Flat HDTV which responded beautifully to the Pioneer DCS-313 displaying perfect compatibility & extreme Electronic co-operation. Red was reproduced in a very sensual manner giving excellent effect to sunrise & sunset scenarios. Apples especially seemed extremely Luscious through the Pioneer DCS-313. Green had a very fresh look with droplets on vegetables reproduced in a very lifelike way. Green grass looked extremely real – If you’d look at green grass for a long time then maybe you would try jump into the Television ( Though all you’d get would be a 36,000 Volt electric jolt ). Black is very dark & fine with all the black video subjects having a very Rich Pitch Black colour with excellent detail without a sector of blotch anywhere. And White is of course very pure & flawless type with a very bright shade, which is yet very pleasant to the eye, but you need to adjust with the video setting a little bit to get that perfect video performance. Overall the Pioneer DCS-313 is very entertaining to watch movies, which are reproduced with brilliant detail. The picture depth offered by the Pioneer DCS-313 is also very formidable while watching movies ( DVD movies ) with sharpness levels doing an excellent job in maintaining an excellent picture ,which is very pleasing to the average human . Thus a full 5/5 is awarded to the Pioneer DCS-313.
Sleek Looks & very powerful sound go together in the Pioneer DCS-313. Though the satellites look a little bland they sound just Amazing considering the size involved. The speakers especially tend to stand out in a darker décor. Though the Pioneer DCS-313 might not suit wood decors there are some out there interested in fusion techniques. The Subwoofer adds a Masculine touch to the entire set. But one problem may rise due to the kind of finish – During a movie while maintaining darkness in the room, the blue light on the Pioneer DCS-313 may hit out at the eye most of the times disturbing the person watching the movie etc. Bu overall the Pioneer DCS-313 is quite a beautiful machine that is a treat to the eye right from the start. But one must not go by just the appeal rather than the performance. Believe me – IF LOOKS COULD KILL, YOU’D BE DEAD. A sure [5/5] for the Pioneer DCS-313 in the field of Aesthetics.

Onboard system keys are very easy to use with your eyes closed & this talks enough of the Pioneer DCS-313. But the Remote is really clumsy though with not so much functions as the Main deck itself. And the instruction manual is very clear when it comes to Directions & Function detail. The onboard controls too are very comfortable to use as they are very well designed & placements well planned & highly Ergonomically efficient. On the whole the Pioneer DCS-313 is a sure breeze to walk with. A 4/5 for being quite easy to use. I wanted to award a 5/5 if it was not for the remote.__________________________ ***BUILD QUALITY. [4/5]*** __________________________
The Pioneer DCS-313 performed superbly in all fields including Build. The Tap Test returned a robust & solid low-frequency audio response suggesting that the build quality of the Pioneer DCS-313 is very very strong. I had tried for a couple of times to test the Pioneer DCS-313 to its extreme but Mr. Kepler tried his best to see that I wouldn’t even touch the system ( he is over-possessive). But the Pioneer DCS-313 has done very well in high Audio volumes, where most systems do not manage to stay in one piece, the Pioneer DCS-313 has done excellently well due to its high quality & heavy speaker boxes that are made up of a very high quality polymer that is chemically inactive & thermally conductive to dissipate the heat energy quick enough to maintain a standard temperature. Though this is not as strong as a bomb shelter it is quite good in its own standards.

This is one of those bargains where one hardly tends to lose out. At £232 this may be considered a steal by Pioneer in the Home Audio category. Though the bass honks at very high volumes, we may not observe it as in that volume we would be thoroughly overtaken by the sheer intensity of sound. I definitely recommend this system to those interested in Higher frequency audio, but I cannot ignore the bass as it is quite formidable too. Just see for yourself if you can get a better deal for a similar product with the same performance level, if you do then do let me know about it. If not then you always have the faithful Pioneer DCS-313 to fall back upon. So you better make the wise decision yourself. And if you have won £10,000 recently then please buy me this one…… PS: Please do not forget to rate this review, Friends. Thanks a lot for reading this review, I honestly hope you’ve enjoyed it. Advantages: Price, ease of use Disadvantages: Problem with movies longer than 172 mins.
I like a decent surround sound when I watch movies, but didn't want to spend £900. I saw this system, and knowing pioneer, decided to get it. At just over £200, I was a little sceptical, but was pleasantly surprised. It was easy to install, the sound is great, and the picture is crystal clear.
Given the price, and the amount of functions on this system, I could not find a better system, no matter how much I searched. There is virtually nothing this ... ...a cd place it in the DVD drive, and it will run a slide show of those images on your TV. It can play Mp3's and Windows Media files. It is also fully DTS capable.
The picture qualiity is great. The sound is excellent, and it has several preset configurations, eg, Cinema, gaming, music etc. It also has the midnight mode, with 2 settings, and dialogue enhancement also with 2 modes. The remote is fully functional and pretty easy to drive.
The only ...
