I purchased this head unit back in 2002as part of a major hifi install in my Audi 80 Avant.
I had previous experience with the DEH-P9100 head unit installed in my Ford Fiesta Zetec-S which was awesome and would have been purchased again apart from the fact it had been discontinued.
So, I popped down to Bass Junkies in Wolverhampton and parted with a cool £525 inc installation for this dream head unit.
Despite this being something of a blind buy, after set-up I needn't have worried. It hooked up perfectly to the Kenwood 4" spkrs in the front, Pioneer 5 1/2 " spkrs in the rear and the active bass tube/Cd changer in the boot. CD sound reproduction is excellent and changing the disc is a breeze-just push the change button and you're away. It also benefits from a stunningly clear display which always keeps you informed with just enough info. The sound controls are very comprehensive allowing perfect set up without really having to resort to external equalisers etc.
Since purchase,I have upgraded the system to include two Pioneer PRS amps, a Pioneer PRS sub and two Pioneer ref std 6.5" component spkrs all custom installed by Bass Junkies.
The head unit has coped tremendously with the upgrade and still has quality to spare.
The only drawbacks are an average radio performance and the sub-menus being less easily available then competitors. I plan to upgrade the system to include a DAB tuner so the Radio will no longer be an issue and the settings are unlikly to need changing.
It has been replaced by the near identical DEH-P9400 and then the 9600 which adds a full colour display.
If you can get it-buy it!!!
