mixing bus (24bit/96kHz) featuring 7 onboard effects, including the all new In-Loop Sampler! The DJM-400 matches Pioneer?s CDJ-200 CD turntable in both function and design, allowing DJs to expand the range of DJing and remixing. Its new symmetrical design is the same size as a CDJ-200 enabling an easy fit in a compact DJ coffin.Features? World?s First In-Loop SamplerAn intelligent 24bit/96kHz sampler automatically detects the tempo of a song during playback, sampling it for a length of 4 beats then loops the sample. Since the sampled sound is in sync with the beat of the tune being played, no matter the tempo, it enables live remixing like never before. Samples are automatically stretched and compressed to match the beat. The DJM-400 will store five samples onboard for a total of 12 seconds of sample time.? Onboard Effects and EqualizationOnboard effects automatically detect the beats per minute of the music and sync to the beats. The DJM-400 includes seven onboard effects: Delay, Echo, Filter, Flanger,Phaser, Robot and Roll. All effects are processed at 24bits for the highest quality sound. A new Beat Select button allows more intuitive and aggressive DJ playing and remixing. Each channel has 3-band isolator EQ with full cut capability. The EQ ranges from +9dB to -∞, (infinity) for total control of the sound. The DJM-400 offers a number of key features for professional DJs, including:- The ability to select either of two microphone connections or one stereo line connection- A fader start so playback can be started by simply sliding the cross fader or channel fader when connected to a Pioneer CDJ product- A peak level meter so the DJ can check audio input levels for each channel or for the master- A Talk Over feature that automatically lowers track volume for the DJ to speak over the trackTechnical Data? 2 Channels? 4 Line Inputs? 2 Turntable Inputs? 2 Switchable Phono/Line Inputs? 2 Fader Start connections? 3 Band EQ per channel (-infinity dB to +6dB)? 2 Mic Inputs (1/4")? Advantages: Build quality, built in effects, sound Disadvantages: Not enough decent effects, sound is not as good as other newer mixers
...I have owned my DJM-500 for over 4 years now, and it has lasted the test of time and the battering I have given it. Still perceived as the original ultimate professional dj/club mixer, it has remained as popular as ever. Its build quality is superb, but I believe its sound is not as good as other newer alternatives.
I am now looking to buy a new mixer - so will I buy another of these or a similar Pioneer product? I think not. I believe the advantages of the Allen & Heath Xone series outweigh Pioneer's mixers. Even so, I will still have a place in my heart for the DJM-500 as it was my very first mixer. I highly recommend this mixer to anybody who is starting out and want a mixer which is built like a brick and sounds good....

Advantages: Great all round durability Disadvantages: None.
...How great is this mixer? ive had mine for about 6 years now, and unlike the pioneers range of cd players, this mixer has never somewhat 'gone out of fashion', ive seen it on many films and music videos, the features on the mixer are absolultley outstanding and work very well with other pionner products, i have it with 2 cdj1000 scratch dj cd players and the durablility is amazing, i would strongly reccommend this mixer to any sort of dj. The autobpm counter works very well, and (touch-wood) i havent had any problems with pionner, a very good amp to link your piooner decks to is a peavy-1000watt and a good pair of speakers, you cannot beat the sound! Adjusts on the mixer/effects are great for messing around with, and great for making mixing more fun!...

Advantages: Sound quality, build Disadvantages: Channel gains on the back of the unit, only 3 channels
...is effortless. It is just odd why they decided on this location in the first place. Apart from this, you only get three channels on the Xone:32 - which is one less than the PioneerDJM-500 and DJM-600. But if you only mix with two decks and an effects unit, or three decks, this arrangement works out great.
All in all, I would highly recommend this mixer above the Pioneer series, and also the Ecler Nuo series. I love its sound and build, and once you get used to the gains being on the back, you will not regret buying this product. I am currently saving for the Xone:62 by Allen & Heath, which is its bigger brother (instead of three channels it has six (four line, two mic). Both mixers are built the same, sound the same, and have the same VCF filter installed, so I am upgrading purely to gain more channels to be used by another CD deck and an external...
