For those who are not technically minded this drive is a CD (640 Mb)re-writer and DVD (4.7Gb)re-writer in one drive.
It is also one of the new generation DVD writer's which writes DVD-R at X4, DVD-RW AT X2, CD at X32 AND CD-RW at x8 which is the fastest DVD writer to date. Although you must use the correct disks for to achieve these speeds.
I did have quite an old CD writer until I updated to the A-05 which has made CD writing and DVD writing so easy and reliable.
The CD writer has new burn proof technology which means that what you try and write it will write and you will end up throwing CD's in the bin.
I write my own audio CD's to use for DJ'ing and from my own experience's audio CD's burn't on this drive have been more reliable than original disks I have bought in the shops (less jumping less often).
The CD writer will easily and quickly backup any software titles you have with the software offered free when you purchase the drive.
The DVD writer I have found to be less reliable on cheaper DVD-R's unfortunately until I updated the bios. Maybe this problem has since been fixed as I bought this drive when it was first out.(Let's hope so !). If not then the patch is easily downloaded from the pioneer web site and the drive works brilliantly now.
In trying out what this drive could do I found, quite simply anything you want it to concerning DVD burning ! It will write my webcam video's of my fish tank in less than 10 mins that's 2Gb in 5mins (with extra software for video editing) so I can watch them on my home DVD player, it will copy Playstation 1 + 2 games (with the software provided) and no more need for 10 CD's to back my hard now 1 DVD will do it.
For a very reasonable price of £127.99 the days of cd writing are coming to an end.
