This is a good, satisfactory dvd player such as you would want for a low price. It's good for the price that it is at so you shouldn't be expecting the world at this price.

It's a solid, stylish player that i think does look very good indeed and has the usual list of playable formats e.g. DVD/DVD-R/DVD-RW**/DVD+R, etc. It also plays CDs, VCDs, SVCDs and i can't find fault with any of its functions - it is a very functionable little box.

DivX® compatible, but without Dolby Surround but thats understandable at this price. It has virtual surround and this works very well with a few speakers and a subwoofer. It has several functions for convenience that you would expect such as Photo + Music Mix (JPEG Slideshow with Music); advanced GUI; a disc navigator for easy browsing; last (position) memory: 5 (DVD)/1 (VCD); resume function, screen saver, auto power off. And i could go on and on listing all the functions available. Yet i'll leave it that this is a solid performer and should be given a look at in this price bracket.

...are variations of Dolby's 5.1ch Digital surround setup. Power wise, the system is ample, yet could do with a little more, as maximum volume is quickly reached - particularly when listening to music. Realistically speaking however, for most family sized living rooms, power is plentiful, yet be warned that if it is purely "pounding bass" that you are after when watching films, systems like Panasonic's SCHT-80, or Pioneer's NV-DV55 might be more up your street. On reflection therefore, the DVAS-300 is an excellent value upgrade if you really want to experience Home Cinema on a budget, although if you can afford to, I personally believe that you would be better placed spending as little more and going for one of the aforementioned, more powerful systems, or even better, a complete Dolby Digital seperates system.... Best value multiregion DVD
Review of Limit JDV-300A by

Advantages: Cheap, multi-region, plays PAL (native) and NTSC (just about)DVDs
Disadvantages: Frame rate not always smooth and appearance dated.

...I bought the Limit JDV300A as a second DVD for the bedroom. Performance wasn't as important as my main player (I keep a Pioneer DV-606D as my main player). However multi-region and the ability to play both PAL and NTSC disks was essential. The machine fulfils my expectations and it only cost £199! The Limit is made with multi-region capability, unlike many players that need a hardware modification. Using the handset, you press eject to open the tray tap in the number 8926 and then the number of the region you want (or 9 for noregion). The limit is packed with features and for the money, I would be very surprised if anyone could do better. Don't expect perfection though - the frame rate is not as smooth as expensive players and the box is a little dated silver with chrome look buttons (not that you'll be using them as the remote...
