Recently I had purchased an LCD television, and since I was already on a role (figuratively speaking) I thought I may aswell up-date my previous DVD player, which was a few years old.
I didn't have much money at the time; to buy a DVD player, so I had to shop around and find the best deals available to me. Eventually I got drawn towards the Pioneer DV-490V-K, as soon as the sales assistant saw I had a mild interest she homed in on me and from that point I knew I didn't have a chance. I ended up buying the DVD player for £159.99.
There are some technical terms I want to explain to you now because I may use them in the item's description.
UPCONVERSION; now this is when a smaller resolution signal, that comes from the in-put cable, is transferred into a television; or anything else to that matter that is able to display images of much greater resolution.
ASPECT RATIO CONTROL; Aspect ratio is the relationship between the height and the width of an image in comparison to the screen it is displayed on.
-----PIONEER DV-490V-K -----
This machine has great looks, it is slim and I feel it could be placed into most living environments without looking out-of-place. IT JUST BLENDS IN.
I am not happy with the quality of pictures that are produced from the HDMI, the Pioneer DV-490V-K manufacturers promised that its Upconversion technology would provide its purchasers with incredible picture resolution (especially on High definition Televisions). I am really unsatisfied with this aspect of the DV-490V-K.
I am pleased with the number of features available on the DVD player, and when comparing expenses the Pioneer DV-490V-K would appear to be the most extensive in its price range. VALUE FOR MONEY is EXCELLENT.
The DVD player, as a whole, comes with a remote control that I find very easy to use and find my way around. The buttons are clearly marked to prevent confusion or mistake. I was impressed with HDMI resolution function available, the fast searches button, and an Aspect ratio control (used to re-configure wide screen or standard pictures). All possible quieries about the remote were answered in the instruction manual provided.
Image clarity is important to me, and it is for this reason that I found the DV-490V-K a little disappointing. I realise that image quality isn't the be-all-and-end-all for alot of you out there, this DVD player would therefore be completely sufficient in that respect.
The instruction manual, for the Pioneer Dvd player, is very helpful and straight forward in use. Most of the functions are common sense but the manual really makes any operation, that is possible to this DVD player, manageable. Installation is also very straight-forward due to a step-by-step guide in the instruction manual. Plus there are several help lines, for people finding fault with the DVD player, inside the manual. The operator will either give you instruction or advise proffesional assistance. -----CONCLUSION -----
The Pioneer DV-490V-K doesn't tick all boxes for me, primarily because of the picture quality, but it does perform well when compared to other Upconverters in its price range. The product is advertised falsely as it claims to offer "the highest standards" in picture clarity. Whatever an item is advertised to do, by its corresponding manufacturer, it should fulfil that purpose.
I would advise that any purchase of a technical devise, such as this DVD player, should be done only after consulting an existing owner of that product; not just consultance from the product's manufacturer. This was my fault.
I hope that this review has helped some of you who may have been looking for a DVD player to make a well-grounded decision.
I bought this product for £159.99, This is great value for money (even if the picture quality isn't great. So for those of you looking for a bargain HERE IT IS!
