Pioneer DV 626D

Advantages: Lots of features for the money

...After reading various reviews in magazines and on the internet rating DVD players, I decided upon the Pioneer 626D. I decided to buy it with with the muilti region modification chip already installed, which makes the player multi region. The good thing about e-mod it that the chip is external so no one has to take the DVD player apart to fit it and the warranty remains intact. The player itself is excellent and sturdily built. One thing that attracted me to this player is its array of features and it was vastly improved over the 525. The sound and picture quality is unbelievable and its user friendly menu navigation is a synch to work, even for my young daughter.... Read review

Advantages: Price, Display, Sound, Looks

...I bought this player with Multi Region chip and would recommend it to anyone looking for a well built, well specced machine. Couple it with a Yamaha basic 6 channel input amp and you have a very good (and inexpensive) Dolby Digital system that is easy to set up and great to watch and hear. So far I have had no problems with any disc from any region and would recommend that if you buy this player also to buy a copy of Apollo 13 to demonstrate the capability of DVD. If you are looking for a mid range player you can't go wrong with the Pioneer.... Read review

Advantages: Brilliant picture and sound quality
Disadvantages: Relatively expensive now

...This DVD player gives amazing quality on both picture and sound. I bought the player chipped to play any region as I already had some US DVD's. The remote is packed but relatively easy to use and the menu system to set the unit up allows the user to set the surround system up to use any combination of speakers. My only fault cannot be levelled at the player which offers brilliant quality and that is that having purchased the 626D I then had to buy a 6 input amplifier to get the best out of the surround system. If I was spending the money again I might get an amplifier with the digital decoder built in and save on the amount of audio cabling my system now needs!... Read review
