Without the detatchable battery case it is a slim, beautiful machine. (about the same size as a DVD box) The case is metallic silver with a hinged lid that folds back to reveal a 7" widescreen display, two tiny stereo speakers and all the disc transport controls.
Using the PDV-LC10 is very easy although you have to bear in mind that this is a portable device and is therefore less sturdy that a dedicated home DVD player. As soon as you insert a disc the machine determines what format the media is in, adjusts itself accordingly and starts playing. The quality is astonishing! I've had portable LCD TVs in the past so I expected this to be in the same 'blurr-o-vision'. It isn't. I've watched 50 or so movies on it now (DVD & VCD) and I'm still impressed by the quality. Obviously the built-in speakers aren't going to blow your mind but sit it on your lap, plug in some headphones (standard Walkman) & you disappear into movieland. Lying in bed at 3am & watching The Matrix in Widescreen while my better half is asleep and oblivious right next to me is a wonderful experience. :-)
Most of the time I have this hooked up to my home theatre system. Even on a 34" widescreen TV and played through a decent Home Cinema amp it's hard to tell that this is a portable device. The only drawback for me is the placement of the optical output socket - it's on the front, whereas all the other sockets are on the side or the back. It doubles up as the headphone socket so there is a practical reason for it being there but it makes things look a bit messy.
The battery case doubles the height (and triples the weight) of the device but it's not ugly or obtrusive. One 90 minute charge lasts long enough to watch about 3 hours of movies - Not quite long enough to watch The Right Stuff but adequate for most movies.
It has a few nice touches like a decent On Screen Display and the ability to flip the screen upside down (?). It can play CD-R disks too which is handy for people who have a CD-writer. It comes with a credit card remote which can be used for all of the machine's functions.
The most amazing thing about this player is the price. It has a list price of around £1200 but I've seen it for as low as £800.
I bought a multi-region version for £800 and I don't regret it for a moment. I got mine from here - http://techtronics.com/ttn/shop/50-pioneer-lc10.html
Advantages: Portable, Stunning Picture Quality Disadvantages: Battery pack triples weight and makes player look bulky
Finding myself with £800 to spend on a DVD player left me with many decisions; portable, surround sound kit, DTS, DD.51...
I finally made the decision after seeing this player on Techtronics (www.techtronics.com) website. I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it.
Everything that I wanted was in this player. It supports DVD/VCD/CD, can decode DTS and Dolby Digital audio tracks, has an optical output, and with the added (mega) bonus of being portable.
... ...crystal clear pictures, in widescreen if the disk permits. Each side of the player sit two small stereo speakers, which aren't ground shaking, but for 4mm thick, what can you expect! Also on the screen are two control dials for colour and brightness, and a button to change the screen mode; normal, widescreen and zoomed. Pressing and holding the screen mode button flips the screen image (for whatever reason!)
The player resembles a portable CD player, ...

I fell in love with it before the 'craze' for DVD was started it just sort of caught my eye whilst I was looking through a magazine...
It comes with all the regular features of a normal - big DVD player but it is small and portable with a clear image on a screen that folds up like a portabl CD player!!!! it has amazing sound quality and features like a CD ...
