Finding myself with £800 to spend on a DVD player left me with many decisions; portable, surround sound kit, DTS, DD.51...
I finally made the decision after seeing this player on Techtronics (www.techtronics.com) website. I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it.
Everything that I wanted was in this player. It supports DVD/VCD/CD, can decode DTS and Dolby Digital audio tracks, has an optical output, and with the added (mega) bonus of being portable.
The player has a 7" LCD screen which gives crystal clear pictures, in widescreen if the disk permits. Each side of the player sit two small stereo speakers, which aren't ground shaking, but for 4mm thick, what can you expect! Also on the screen are two control dials for colour and brightness, and a button to change the screen mode; normal, widescreen and zoomed. Pressing and holding the screen mode button flips the screen image (for whatever reason!)
The player resembles a portable CD player, cased in shiny chrome. The screen can be up for viewing, or flipped down when connected to your TV. The controls are located on the left hand side of the player, in a round layout. The
The output from this player is outstanding. The LCD screen produces sharp images, whilst connecting the player to a TV produces results that you can expect from a full sized player of the same cost.
An informative, and easy to use on screen display allows you to setup all of the players features, and tweak it to suit your tastes.
The supplied battery after a charge of 1.5-2 hours will give an average playing time of 3 hours, at the expense of almost tripling the weight of the player, and adding a bulkiness to it's overall appearance.
The player is also supplied with a credit cardremote control, which is almost useless when the player is used as a portable, but when connected to your home cinema system, you can access all of the players features using it.
I got my player for £749 (inc vat) from Techtronics.com. The player supports both manual and auto region change, so fears of the new Recional enCoding Enhancements need not worry you. Changing the region code is easy, and is done with the remote control, via a few simple keypresses documented in the instructions supplied by Techtronics.
