Advantages:
Fantastic sound Quality, affordable (without losing manufacturer quality), Very easy to use,  can handle several speakers without the need for adding additional amps, Plenty of inputs and outputs (ideal if you want to hook it up to the stereo and tv)

Disadvantages:
None .  My parents have bought the system, and have a technological knowledge of zero, therefore they find the use of the remote control a little confusing, but after set - up and a good read of the manual, its relatively easy to get to grips with

- Initial Note -

My parents recently travelled to the States, and was expecting a gift when they got home, but have instead bought the Pioneer Reciever.

They had been talking about getting a good surround system, as they watch the television quite a lot (too much), and generally listen to a lot of music when entertaining. I must say they have got a brilliant buy, and at an affordable price. (Prices are generally a lot cheaper if you buy in the states, and therefore got a bargain at only US $349, which at todays exchange rate is £188, which may I say is a lot cheaper than at home)

However, even at the UK prices I think this system is well worth a try. The sound quality is so precise, strong and clear. When you have it turned up to the hilt, the bass system doesnt crackle or fade, and generally seems to respond effectively to excessive use, and definately think it stands up in quality to some of the higher priced competitors such as kenwood and sony.

- Comment on Surround Sound -

* Firstly, I have to comment on the diversity of its Surround Sound options. When deciding what kind of surround sound ouput you want, you have the choice of; Advanced Music, Advanced Movie, Expanded Theatre, Virtual Surround back, Sports Surround, Phones Surround, Game Mode, TV Surround Mode, 6-Channel Stereo, and Advanced Surround. Phew! This wide selection will certainly allow you to choose the kind of sound you want for different applications. I must say that each type responds effectively to its proposed use, and am slowly beginning to take advantage of the controls. Brilliant!

I`d also like to note that it supports;
Dolby Digital, DTS, DTS-ES Discrete 6.1, Dolby Pro-Logic and many more.

- Audio Features -
  • The pioneer system firstly incorporates a digital signal processor (provided by motorola), which allows you to use digital applications with it, unlike for example older analogue appliances.
  • It has a 96 Khz A/D and D/A convertor (Digital to Analogue and vice versa) for example with use for older appliances
  • Has a comprehensive and simple to use Bass and Treble control system

- Video Features -

* It has an in built Room setting, allowing you to quickly set it up. For example, it has pre-determined settings that would be ideal for a living room, a bedroom, or for example a dining area, at the push of a button.

- Other Features -
  • Its has a multi channel input, so that you can incorporate a whole system in to the one device. For example routing up your sound system, your television system, your satelite system, and your DVD and Video appliances for example at the same time.
  • It has large speaker terminals, so that if for example you really wanted to create a loud sound (if youre rich enough to own a room so big where it would be needed), there are capabilities to accomodate it.

- Key Statistical Information -
  • 6 ch amplifier
  • Dolby Digital EX / DTS-ES
  • 100W* 6 channels
  • Multi-channel Acoustic Calibration System Set-Up
  • Pro- Logic II & DTS NEO6
  • Headphone Surround
  • Power Requirements - UK 230V
  • Power Consumption - 280 Watts
  • Power consumption in Stand-by mode - 0.5watt

- Useful additional information -

If my review is not sufficient to satisfy technical needs, you can either enter a local electronics dealer such as dixons for example where additional information could be provided, or you could visit the European Pioneer website, which is http://www.pioneer-eur.com.

- Final Note -

So far I have really enjoyed the use of the Pioneer System. Technology has come so far nowadays, that almost everything is becoming a convenience. No longer do I have to rake around for the correct remote for the stereo or the television so i can turn the volume up or down. Its simply done through the reciever.

I would recommend this product to any consumers debating whether to buy a system like this. It is one of the cheapest on the market, and its quality certainly has not suffered. Definately a BARGAIN!
