traditional, efficient action score that, due to the film's setting, occasionally incorporates light Asian touches. The popularity of Hans "Long John" Zimmer (all the credits in the CD's liner notes include pirate-themed nicknames, like the roll call in a Simpsons Halloween episode) isn't in doubt-- he sure is one in-demand composer -- but afficionados are divided about his artistic worth, and this score isn't about to reconcile them. Some think that Zimmer relies too much on his stable of composers and sticks to tried-and-true recipes; others admire his capacity to weave themes in and out of cues, creating a whole made of subtly interrelated parts. At World's End feeds both camps: seven of his collaborators are credited with writing "additional music," and the album feels by-the-numbers at times; but those inclined to listen very closely will be rewarded by the way Zimmer sneaks in bits of two main melodies (especially variations on the first track, a pirate theme titled "Hoist the Colours" and cowritten by director Gore Verbinski) throughout. The use of electronics is so light as to be almost undetectable, which will please fans of a more organic orchestral sound. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

For most Pirates of the Caribbean fans it was disappointing that the second movie didn’t have a companion game on consoles. However the creators (Disney) are making up for the huge losses in revenue and support from fans with ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 3’. The game includes the storylines from both the second and third movie installments. The game outstandingly captures both the humorous and looks of the actual movies but fails in other areas. I’m not going to go into depth about the film as this is a game review but the main characters are Captain Jack Sparrow (Jonny Depp), Elizabeth (Keira Knightley) and Will (Orlando Bloom). I’ve seen all three films and even played the first PotC game but does the final game enhance the Pirate feeling??
Throughout the majority of the game you’ll play as Captain Jack Sparrow, but at some stage you’ll also get to play with Elizabeth and Will plus a few other characters. You’ll battle your way through each level coming from Tortuga to Singapore – Sound Exciting? Well its really not. You have the variety of many attacks including light and heavy attacks, close and far range attacks in which you will perform combos by stringing each different attack together. The game miserably fails to match the films action sequences and the combat can become really boring, you constantly find yourself sticking to the same combo or just bashing one button. As you progress you’ll pick up new combos; however they don’t look like developments from the earlier combos. In addition to this there not much effective either. There are handfuls of weapons available including swords (obviously), guns, grenades and knives which are available for you to use at some stage in the game. I was very disappointed when I had the whole inventory of weapons, the most effective weapon was my sword, you can’t expect anything more than an explosion from a grenade but the guns and knives were hard to aim. Disney shows itself off on advertisements as being magical, and I don’t disagree but the enemies in the game appear from thin air as if a Disney creator waved his magic wand and poof!!....There are enemies everywhere. Not to worry, just wear some more of the paint down on your control pad.
The first half of the game follows the events which occurred in the second movie (Dead Mans Chest) where you have to recover the heart of ‘Davey Jones’ to evade becoming a associate of his crew. This ultimately leads to an encounter with the Kraken. The other half of the game sees Sparrow join forces with some of his previous enemies in an attempt to recover Davey Jones’ heart once and for all. If you’ve seen the second movie don’t expect the game to refresh your memory as it’s quite difficult to follow. Recognisable scenes are included but the game offers more stuff to do than what is in the movies.
The game does offer solid audio and the sound-alikes do an exceptional job in leading us to believe that they are in fact the real deal. The game also includes the movie soundtrack which tends to fade in and out depending on what situation you’re in. On the other hand you’ll get sick of hearing your enemies yell the same stuff when they charge at you.
In conclusion, the creators have stuck to the by the book approach. Sure you get to play as the characters and you’ll get to explore the different destinations that appear in the movies. However the creators have approached the matter all wrong! It feels as if they were scared to take risks and show there true potential and imagination. Picture this…..Your a cool character in a game, in the middle of an exotic but dangerous place, and all you do is run round in circles doing the same thing over and over again. I certainly wouldn’t recommend this game to anyone interested, especially fans of the movies.

Review of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (PS2)
Advantages: Fun to play Disadvantages: May be boring
Having played the first Pirates Of The Caribbean game and being impressed by graphics but puzzled by the gameplay, and the Legend Of Jack Sparrow which I thought was a brilliant explanation of Sparrow's adventures, this game was no disappointment.
Though it could probably have done with some longer cut-scenes between levels to explain, if you have seen the movies then you'll know exactly what's happening (though sometimes out of sequence to films).
