I you shop around, at local tyre fitters as well as on the internet, you will find that there are many places selling bargain tyres, but you must pay for delivery, and fitting, and balancing, Oh and the new valve, then there is the charge for disposing of your old tyres. I decided this saving just wasn't worth the hassle. I therefore went to my local tyre fitting centre.

My tyre expert is worth his weight in gold, and he runs his hand across the tread before doing anything else. He then knows if the steering geometry is wrong, in some cases it can save premature wear on your tyres, and can save the customer a fortune, never mind affecting safety.

If you want to visit the Pirelli website, take a look see here:-
http://www.pirelli.co.uk/web/default.page

New tyres need to be run in, and then checked as often as you can, for both pressure, and wear. The modern way is not to rotate your tyres on to different axles, but although this does even out the wear, and make tyres last longer, the problem is that all of your tyres will wear out at the same time, and most people prefer to change two at a time.

As for grip, tPirellis do seem to grip better in the wet than most others, and in my opinion this is where you really need the grip.

I don't "do" designer tread, and I do believe a lot of tyres have tread designed more for looks rather than function. Some Pirellis may not have modern "cool" tread, but I do think they look good, not only when they are brand new, but after a lot of wear.
My Pirellis are fitted to highly polished alloy wheels, and olok great.

Most tyres nowadays have a direction of rotation on them, signified by an arrow on the sidewall, some don't, however, but they may have "outside" marked in a prominent position, so make sure yours are fitted the right way round. Also, do you know what your pressures should be? What it says in the handbook may not always be correct. This is due to the fact that manufacturers have to state a pressure, suitable for the average driver with an average load. Yours may be much different, so it is best to have a decent tyre fitter's opinion after a while, you may well find yours are wearing in the middle for instance, indicating too much pressure, even though it is exactly what it says in the book.

This is just my opinion, these look good, they are affordable, they grip very well, and don't wear out too quickly. They offer everything a tyre should to me.

I will just mention that Pirelli is the same firm that does the famous calendars, I will not go on about these as they are not relevant in this review, however, if you wish to see the calendar website, view it here:- http://www.pirellical.com/thecal/home.html

I must also mention that tyres will look better for longer if you use tyre slick or similar, this gives your rubber a wet look, but also protects against extremes of weather.

OK, just for fun, there is a tyre site that allows you to look up any vehicle, just by typing in the registration,. It will give you the make, model, and colour, plus of course the recommended tyre size. Have a go with your own reg number:-
http://www.tyre-shopper.co.uk/tyre-search.asp

I normally give the RRP in my reviews, but in this case, it obviously depends on the size, there are plenty of outlets, and websites, just be careful about delivery prices, and allow for fitting.

Thank you for reading, and remember to check your tyres for wear & pressure.

What Price Safety?
Review of Pirelli Tyres by the_mad_cabbie

Advantages: Good grip in both wet and dry conditions. Great safety record.
Disadvantages: One of the most expensive tyres on the market.

...So why do I prefer Pirelli tyres to many of their competitors? I don't know if any of you remember a recent controversy in the USA back in 2000 where there was over 200 fatalities caused when the Firestone tyres on Ford Explorer SUV's failed during cornering, causing the drivers to crash and in many cases turn over the vehicle? On investigation this was found to have been caused by the tread on the tyre separating from the tyre body, which subsequently ...
...performance tyres. ~ ~ Pirelli were the first tyre manufacturers to use nylon belts, first introducing them on racing tyres as far back as the 1950's. They now use them almost as a matter of course, and they are certainly on the two different sizes of Pirelli tyres that I currently use on my BMW 525, the Pirelli P4000 and the Pirelli P6000. It's a simple enough matter to check whether your own car tyres have these nylon bands fitted. If you read ... Read review

Most overlooked car part
Review of Pirelli Tyres by hardmanphil

Advantages: Long lasting, excellent grip, great in wet
Disadvantages: Noisy towards the end of useful life

...stay out of trouble. Pirelli P6000 = Mileage ------- Back to the point...I changed from Firestone tyres on my car when they wore out - the fronts after only 16k miles on a new car and the rears at around 28k miles. I've now replaced my front Pirelli's again after a further 30k miles - (with life still in them - a slow puncture resulted in their premature demise). The rear tyres have done 16k and only a quarter worn. There are many ...
...go for next time, make sure you choose carefully. I recommend Pirelli but many other brands give good (or even better) performance, just make sure it meets the standards required by your type of car and driving habits. Don't just buy the ones on offer this week. Safe driving....... ... Read review

Review of Pirelli Tyres by craig911gt2

Advantages: excellent grip in wet
Disadvantages: expensive

...my last car it had pirelli P6000 tyres on it, I have never really been that bothered about what tyres were on my car before as long as they were cheap and legal, but since using these I have always replaced with P6000's. Price I get my tyres from a local supplier (not a major garage) as I have used the major company's and believe the price and quality of service are supperior. In the past I have only paid around £25-£35 per tyre and now I pay £50 ...
...but I hope this helps a little as a rough idea. Overall Although they are expensive I would say that the quality you get from Pirelli is worth it. You all know the famous saying, " you get what you pay for" well this is a perfect example. ... Read review

Kings of the road
Review of Pirelli Tyres by andycharger

Advantages: Good hard tyres. Grip well
Disadvantages: side wall splits

...my cars, I have owned pirelli tyre at some time. My old Primera has now gone to my wife as a run around but it does eat tyres. Due to its power steering, it likes to rub the outside corners off within a few thousand miles. However, this time, the rubber on the front was not Pirelli but Dunlop. This has been chewed through by the nation's roads at an alarming rate. Added to this, the tracking has been out and damaged them further. The soft compound ...
...help in tyre wear. Pirelli avoid the tyre wear problem by making a series of tyre that are tailored around the road. They are built to absorb the characteristics of the surface and not lose tread too quiclky. The rubber used in their moulds is a medium hardness consistency. This leads to a hard wearing tyre but still soft enough to give great handling. Performance in the rain is also superb. The "Rain Gulleys" cut into the likes of Michellin and ... Read review

Toyo Tyres
Review of Toyo Tyres by  andycharger

Advantages: great tyres
Disadvantages: Hard to find

...year after year as more people try them out. Longevity? Well, they were still looking like new when I sold the Tub. They had clocked 15,000 miles up on them without loking worn. That is suprising thinking about the way it ate a set of firestones in about 4 months! Price? Well I paid £50 each for mine so they are slightly more than your Firestones or budget tyre and along the same price as Pirelli, Goodyear and Dunlop. So Toyo make attractive and practical tyres at an affordable price. The only bad side is not many places stock them. You may need to shop around for them. Why not consider them next time? Check out their website: www.toyo.com... Read review

You can't get any better than the facelift Cupra
Review of Seat Leon 1.8 T by  lcharm

Advantages: Better Looking than Golf and A3 equivalent, goes like stink, Comfortable to drive
Disadvantages: Limited turning circle making tight corners and parking a bit difficult.

...I'm the proud owner of the 180bhp 20V 1.8T facelift model, and I have to say, it's the best car for a young driver who needs/wants a nippy car. Plus the insurance won't hit you like the GTI and A3 models. The car is incredibly fast and I have given BMW 320s, and 325s a good run for their money, 318's need not apply!! Fantastic torque levels equivalent to a 150bhp Tdi model on the VAG engines. Before you know it your doing 100 (not that I recommend it!) and you can still feel it in 6th gear! The suspension on the CUPRA models is actually better than the GOLF Gti as from experience and a bit of research, there is much less roll in the CUPRA. I recommend getting Goodyear eagle F1 tyres for this car as they last long and the performance is actually better than the standard Pirelli tyres you get. Also good in the rain... Read review

I will get my tyres somewhere else next time
Review of National Tyres by  dingoo

Advantages: a good selection of tyres
Disadvantages: high price, waiting time, staff memebers

...I drive a diesel ford focus and do over the average number of miles, therefore I change my tyres on a regular basis. Being a diesel and being heavier on the front end the fron tyres go quicker then the back, when I say go I mean lose the tread. This is no fault of the car I change them about every 14 months which isnt to bad, I never realy invest in the named brand like pirelli. michelin, or bridgestone. I usually buy the average make not budget tyres the ones made by the above companies but without the brand name. The tyres in most places are classed as budget tyres medium cost or brand tyres I always buy the medium cost tyres. My reason for this is they are made by the brand names and last as long but ar two thirds or even half the price. National tyres I had never tried before I had used a number of other tyre...
