The majority of Piz Buin suncare products come in either a deep brown (sun care products) or a deep blue bottle (after sun products), in this case it's a dark brown bottle with orange writing. On my recent holiday abroad (I say recent, it's over a month ago now but it keeps me sane by saying recent!) I was determined to get the best tan I could in the 10 days we were in Gran Canaria. By the time we arose in the morning (suffering hangovers) and obviously had our afternoon siesta ready for the big night ahead, tanning time was somewhat limited and so, on a trip to the supermarket over there I stocked up on everything I thought might improve my tan - except cooking oil of course!
** The Product **
The majority of Piz Buin suncare products come in either a deep brown (sun care products) or a deep blue bottle (after sun products), in this case it's a dark brown bottle with orange writing. It's thick plastic so you don't need to worry about it popping or anything in your case and the opening is a twist top (similar to some shampoos) so there's no risk of spillages either. The bottle is about 20cm in height and has a flat bottom so is ideal for standing up on a shelf. The product itself is a light white colour and has the same viscosity as water or any other plain liquid. The smell is quite hard to describe, there's a slight coconut smell to it along with a hair spray/fake tan kind of aroma too - typical of most sun care products I'd say.
** Application **
Actual application is fairly straightforward, merely squirt a couple of sprays onto your skin and rub in. It appears to be a light white colour when first sprayed but as soon as you rub in there is no colour left on the skin. It soaks in easily, within about 20 seconds and leaves behind no greasy residue at all. With this product a little does go a long way, a couple of squirts up your arm with be sufficient to cover your whole arm. It can be used on all areas of the body, including the face and when applied does give a slightly cooling sensation too. It has a very low UVA-UVB protection so it's always adviseable in the sun to use a sun protector too which should be applied underneath the Piz Buin Spray. It can then be reapplied as many times as you wish during the day!
** The Science **
This product contains Melitane which is quoted on the Piz Buin website as being "an active ingredient" which is designed to "enhance a natural tan." This ingredient replaces Carotene which is what the majority of after sun creams contain, however this has been rejected by Piz Buin as it can develop a slight orange tint to the skin and can also stain clothing and towels - Melitane won't! Melitance also increases the skin's production of melanin by 54% and so develops your tan much faster.
** My Opinion **
I think this product is superb, the effects aren't immense or enough so as to look fake but it does provide just a little bit more of a golden glimmer to your skin after a day of sun bathing. The right way to describe this would be as a tan intensifier which is exactly what it does, it brings out your tan - similar to an enhancing aftersun cream to give you a bit more of a tan and a glow about you.
It's priced at £10.99 in Boots for a 200ml bottle which my friends and I all used daily, several times, while in Gran Canaria and I've still returned home with about a quarter of a bottle so I'd say it'll last you and your partner/friend/family a good few holidays!
Happy Tanning!
N.B. Althought this product is under Body Cooling Spray, the actual product is known in the UK as Body Cooling and Tanning Spray!
Advantages: Cools, moisturises and prevents burning. Good value for money. Disadvantages: Probably not suitable to be used on it's own as a sunscreen
As promised, this light, revitalizing spray does four things. 1. Immediately cools and refreshes ‘sun-drenched skin’. 2. Moisturises, to keep skin ‘smooth and supple’ and prevent peeling. 3. Boosts tan with ‘Active Tanning Complex’ (whatever that is). And 4. Contains UBV filter to protect skin from harmful rays. With such low protection (SPF 2), this product is only really suitable for tanned skin or skin that tans easily. As my skin is neither of ... ...a proper sunscreen (which had a much higher specification), applying the spray over the top – frequently and all over the body, as the instructions suggest.
Although I didn’t have particularly high expectations, the spray was very effective in fulfilling it’s many purposes, especially in cooling me down when I felt hot and dehydrated after sitting in the sun for too long. The packaging was nothing special – dark brown with mostly white, plain font ...

Advantages: Helps you tan aswell as protects Disadvantages: Very oily, very expensive
I always use this in the summer when i am lying in the garden sunning myself or when i go on holiday. The great thing baout this stuff is that it has beta carotene in it which is an orangy brown colouranr which not only make you look browner when you put it on it also enhances your tan as you get it. Unfortuantely this product will cost about thirteen ounds a bottle although you do get a lot of use out of it. Although you should always buy new sun ... ...about two. This product ranges from factor 2 up to about 15 as it is an oil rather than a cream so doesn't go as high as lotions do.
This product is mainly aimed as people who don't easily burn, i myself get away wiht just wearing a factor 2. People with fair sken may need to use a higher factor, my mum is okay witha factor four and she is very fair haired and skinned. This product is not for people with skin that will burn very very easily.
Being ...
