How we met!
------------------
Piz Buin Summer Sensation Daily
Body LotionI discovered this Piz Buinmoisturiser/self tanner after returning from a winter sun holiday in Tenerife. With a beautiful bronze tan and all the comments that went with such a radiant tan, there was no way I wanted this tan to fade!
So, off I toddled down to town and found myself in Superdrug. Not being my 'normal' place to shop, I normally go to Boots, I had no idea where anything was in the shop and quickly got frustrated! I've used
Dovemoisturising self tan before and was quite happy to get some more of that, could I find it…..in my dreams!
After marching around the store a couple of times and feeling a bit of an idiot, I saw what appeared to be the '
self tan' section. Not exactly what I was looking for but it'll do.
I stood, I stared, I pondered, and I got confused and completely baffled by the overwhelming selection of different types of self tan. How could it be so difficult to keep a tan, let alone acquire one! It was actually quicker to book the holiday to Tenerife than it was to buy self tan!! (Just a small useless side point I thought I would share with you!)
I finally plucked up the courage to pick a box off the shelf to have a read. Me not being the most intelligent of people on the planet sadly picked up the self tan for 'dark skin'…ok, I'm very fair, have freckles, and I'm 90% Irish (not that that's is a downside or a form of disablement!) but you get the idea that my skin is less than 'dark'!!
With a small amount of people starting to gather behind me waiting for me to push off from the shelf that I had been staring at for some time, I put back the one for 'dark skin' and managed to muster the energy, and eyesight, to collect from the shelf one that looked like it did all skin tones.
What was it I finally collected from the shelf? Yes indeed, it was Piz Buin Summer Sensation Daily Body Lotion.
Not being a huge fan of the once a week self tan's that make you turn a freaky orange colour, I prefer the subtle approach to things and like it when it gradually builds to save people saying to you " oh my, have you been under the sun bed?" I just don't need the hassle!
Being quite chuffed with my find I toddled over to the till to pay along with some other items in my basket. Being in Superdrug you naturally expect things to be a snip…..wrong!! As I watched the prices flag up on the little screen a complete look of horror came upon my face when the lady scanned in the Piz Buin box. A vey nice and pricey £7.99! Okay, you might say that's cheap. Well, if the bottle was the same size as say Dove
moisturiser/self tan is then I would agree with you…but its not! This is only
200ml; Dove is about 500ml for approximately the same price.
However, not wanting to make even more of a scene in the store I swallowed my horror and paid for it all. "After all" I thought, "it's a known to be an expensive brand, maybe it's a lot better than Doves'" In all fairness, as the bottle was in a rather fancy box, then it did look like it was about the same size as the Dove that I had previously been using.
Or maybe I need to go to the opticians?!
After arriving home and unpacking all of my purchases, I couldn't resist taking it out of the box to have a sniff and see why the heck it was so expensive. Well, obviously you can't tell that just from smelling it, but it did smell very nice.
It has quite a strong perfume which smells more like a nice perfume than a bottle of moisturiser, which is definitely a plus point.
It smells slightly sweet, almost honey-like. If you're really good with the imagination then it might smell like a Chanel perfume, but you will have to try VERY hard to do that!!
The best time, so I believe, to apply moisturiser especially self tan is after a
shower. Fortunately it was at the end a long day and I always have a shower when I get home just to help unwind from the day.
So, after showering I dried off (as you do!) and rather excitedly opened the bottle and squirted some into the palm of my hand. I'm always quite wary of trying new self tan products after some went rather wrong a couple years ago leaving me with what looked like major birthmarks up my arms!
Anyway, back to the subject in hand…Piz Buin Summer Sensation.
As I tipped the bottle up to dispense some onto my hand, I was rather surprised at the speed it came out. All of a sudden I was greeted with a splodging glugging noise and a very generous amount of moisturiser on my hand!
The consistency of the moisturiser is really quite runny which surprised me after the Dove one I had been using which is very gluey and almost solid-like.
After undefeatedly trying to get some of it back into the small opening it came out on in the bottle, I decided I would liberally rub it all over me and go tanned from head to
toe! This small
task began well, starting at the top and working my way down quite methodically, which is unlike me!
As you gently massage the silky, milky moisturiser in, ensuring no little crevice has been missed, your nostrils are filled with the delightfularoma of the perfume, which, in my opinion, has no cocoanut element in it - this I get very tired of in moisturisers.
You begin to feel transported to a health spar, and feel really rather pampered. How can such a simple thing like moisturiser do this to you?!
After I had rubbed in every last little bit of moisturiser, praying I hadn't missed an obvious place, or destined for another birthmark, I sheepishly wrapped a towel around me and sat on the bed to watch
TV for a few minutes to allow it to dry in before getting dressed again.
This, I didn't realise, takes longer than I had anticipated!
Because it is so silky and smooth, it is pretty much instantly absorbed and doesn't leave you feeling glued up or heavy skinned. It feels natural yet cared for and slightly silky feeling.
I eventually got dressed and when down to cook tea, forgetting all about my new experience with a self tan bottle!
It was, however, only at bed time did I become aware of the effectiveness of this dinky little bottle of moisturiser when I went to get changed into my pj's I looked in the mirror and my eyes were nearly ejected from their sockets!
I looked like I had lived on Tenerife for the last year!! This took a 'healthy glow' to a whole new spectrum.
As time went by in the preceding days the tan started to fade and allowed me to reapply what had been lost with time. This time though, I was a lot more prepared for the potential situation I could be faced with if I had no regard for the strength of the moisturiser. The next time I was a lot more careful of how much I squoze out, bearing in mind how much it cost me!
This time was a lot more successful and looked really nice and natural.
I was very pleased I didn't go orange or too brown, it was just right.
They claim on the front that it "gradually build a beautiful tan" "all day moisturisation" well, the latter is true, however, the first could be true if you use a small amount. I though, do not use it every single day as I really would look stupid! All I want from a self tan is a nice, naturally sun kissed look without it looking fake. This, I feel, I can achieve with this product, its brilliant stuff!
Piz Buin is made by Johnson and Johnson which I trust to be a good name in the
beauty industry.
----------------------
Does it work?
----------------------
Definitely! Within a couple hours of apply it I could notice a tan appearing on my arms in total contrast to my white hands that I had forgotten to moisturise!
The tan is not orange at all, which pleased me a little more. It's a nice subtle brown, tan colour.
I have never been able to find what skin tone this one covers; I presume all as it is a white, milky colour.
It seems the type to be intelligent to your skin tone and alter accordingly.
---------------------
Lastability:-
---------------------
Again, very good. I only apply it about 3 times a week and for my fair skin that is plenty just to keep the winter whiteness at bay.
---------------------
Application:-
---------------------
I must say, I definitely recommend apply this at night before you go to bed rather than in the morning or early evening when you have to wear clothes again. It does take quite a while to soak into my skin and easily wears off onto fabrics, including bed sheets….oops!!
---------------------

Cost and where to buy:-
-------------------
As already mentioned I bought it from Superdrug for £7.99 and they are known to be the cheapest on the high street. Unfortunately I don't know how much it is in Boots. Some
online retailers have it for £7.99 as well, but remember postage on top of that, and some are £9.00.
From what I gather, you can buy it pretty much anywhere you see them selling Piz Buin products.
