~~Arriving~~
The first thing that struck me as we entered Pizza Express in Leamington Spa was the smell. It smelled heavenly of all different yummy food smells and i couldn't wait to take a look t the menu. The restaurant itself was nice and spacious and fairly modern. The kitchen area is based within the main restaurant and is one of those open ones so you can see everything being prepared. They had a proper stone oven for cooking the pizzas in which i love as i think they taste nicer cooked in a proper stone oven.
~~Getting a table~~
The place was very busy as it was a Saturday evening but we managed to get a table no problem. A gentlemen came to greet us at the door and took us over to our table and gave us menus. He also asked if he could get us drinks while we looked at the menu. I thought that was good customer service.
~~The Menu~~
I was expecting the menu to be similar to that of Pizza Hut with your typical kind of pizzas but i was wrong. They had a very extensive choice and most of them had slightly different types of toppings on like different kinds of hams and cheeses, olives, capers, anchovies, asparagus and even a few pizzas with egg on them!
If Pizza isn't for you there's also a good choice of pastas including Lasagne and Canelloni and also a choice of several salads. They also do a vegetarian menu and children's menu so you'll find something for everyone.
And not to mention their gorgeous desert menu, my favourite to place to look in any restaurant. Pizza Express' contains a mixture of tempting deserts from ice creams to sorbets and cheesecakes to Tiramisu.
~~Prices~~
Prices here are very reasonable and start from only £5.65 for a Margherita pizza upto £9.10 for a pizza with chicken, tomato and chargrilled Italian vegetables on it.
Pastas start at £7.25 for a traditional dish of aubergine, tomato, grana padano and garlic, upto £8.25 for a Pollo Pesto which contains chicken, mushroom, red onion, parmesan and pesto finished with mozzarella and grana padano.
Salads sound deicious and healthy with prices starting at £8.10 for a salad of chicken, anchovies, grana padano, croutons and lettuce with a caesar dressing.
Deserts are from £2,85 for Italian chcolate ice cream upto £4.35 for a toffee fudge sundae.
The Children's menu is smaller portions suitable for children and they can have a three course meal for just £5.65 !!
~~My meal~~
I decided after much consideration to try a calzone as i'd never had one before. For anyone who doesn't know what one is it's a pizza but rolled up. The one i chose contained Mozzarella, tomatos, chicken, bacaon and spinach with their famous pizza sauce.
We didn't have to wait too long for our meals to arrive and i have to say mine was huge. It came with a lovely side salad aswell which was nice. As for my calzone it was absolutly delicious. It filled the plate and was crammed full of ingredients which all blended together to give a wonderful taste. Despite being full once i'd finished part of me felt disappointed it had all gone as i'd really enjoyed it.
For my desert i chose to try a choclate glory which was creamy vanilla ice cream with bite sized pieces of chocolate fudge cake and then drizzled with chocolate sauce. And yes it was as delicious as it sounds. It was piled high in a tall sundae glass. The chocolate fudge cake pieces were really tasty and very rich and blended perfectly with the ice cream.
~~Overall Summary~~
We all had a brilliant evening at Pizza Express. The staff were all friendly and always smiling. Their service was outstanding. The choice of food was excellent with something for everyone and the prices were also really good. The portions were quite large which made it even more value for money. The restaurant itself was clean and modern and very stylish. I would definitely recommend going!
~~A Bit about Pizza Express~~
The very first Pizza Express was opened in London's Wardour Street in Soho in 1965. They now have around 279 restaurants across the whole of the UK.
~~Pizza Express in Supermarkets~~
If you want to relive your own experiences of this truly fantastic restaurant, or maybe you haven't got one near you then fear not because you can buy Pizza Express pizzas in supermarkets! The recipes are all based on ones from the restaurants and are also made in the exact same way. They currently have 8, 8" pizzas and 3, 12" pizzas that you can buy aswell as dough balls, one of their most famous starters and 6 different salad dressings.
I have tried the 12" Margherita pizza. I found this in Tesco for £3.85. I have also seen these in Sainsbury's for around the same price. This may seem a bit pricey but believe me it's worth it. They only take around 9-12 mins to cook. They are on a stone baked base. The sauce used on them is their famous tomato pizza sauce which also contains lots of lovely herbs and flavourings. There's chunks of Mozarella on top which melt beautifully. Overall it really is a taste sensation and worth the money. The only thing i think could be improved is putting slightly more mozarella on but as there's herbs in the sauce it doesn't matter too much if all you get is a mouthful of the base with no cheese.
Advantages: Good food, service, the prices Disadvantages: Can't think of any major ones
What it is: Pizza Express is a chain of restaurants that it’s keen on top quality produce and bona fide food. The main focus is on stylish restaurants and value for money. The company employs 6000 employees and has more than 280 restaurants across the UK. It has sells it’s own brand of pizza’s at Waitrose and Sainsbury’s supermarkets.
The Décor: Each restaurant is different. At a recent visit the restaurant had wooden floors, round tables and square ... ...garlic bread and salads. The pizza menu is very extensive, they all have Italian names that may be a little difficult to pronounce! Whatever type of pizza you want you will find it here. I recently tried a new pizza, ‘Gorgonzola’ which is yummy blue cheese and I heartily recommended it if you are a fan of strong cheese. There is also a Braille menu on request apparently.
Whilst the main courses are mostly pizza, there are a few pasta dishes such ...

Advantages: Pizza with pizzaz and people that don't take the pizz Disadvantages: portions small enough to force you to order dessert (shame, that one)
I stood outside Pizza Express, confused and almost blinded by the giant blue million-watt fluorescent tubing. I was examining the menu and was left a little undecided as to whether to enter or not. With main courses with names like ‘Sloppy Guiseppe’ and ‘Ham and eggs’, I was a little unsure whether the theme was Italian or greasy spoon.

Our drinks arrived, two bottles Chianti, priced at £14.95 (for 100cl) and very nice, according to the Mrs. and my glass of Coke, not thrilling but I did get a slice of lime, which made me feel a little special. We talked cheerily through the wait for ...

Advantages: Delicious food and good value for what you get Disadvantages: Akin to using a plastic spade to mine coal
...I've been to dozens of Pizza Expresses all over the country, and there are certain things that are constants throughout. All the restaurants tend to have very modern décor - original and clever lighting, modern art, lots of wrought iron, minimalistic but gorgeous flower arrangements and pleasant, speedy staff. But anyway, the food. Pizzas as we know 'em are not really very Italian at all - in fact most of our favourite 'Italian' dishes were invented ... ...to its food than, say, Pizza Hut. You can't have a deep pan pizza ('This is not a loaf of bread for goodness' sake!' I think I heard one chef say) or plasticky cheese in the crust. You can have just one type of base, and one size (just right for an individual person) combined with a million different types of toppings. Not just cheese and pineapple and the other usual high street fare, but more traditional Italian cheeses, vegetables, even egg. The ...

Advantages: Great pizza Disadvantages: I'm expanding
Pizza Express is everywhere. There's probably one near you. If you live within a 20 mile radius of a McJunk and Pizza Hut then there's a Pizza Express just waiting for you to visit. I like Pizza Express. Why? Because they sell the best pizza east of Kalamazoo. Given absolute freedom to choose then Ginos East and My Pi real Chicago stuffed pizza is my preference. I don't scare easy and after a few beers I'll happily eat a slice from a New York street ... ...pretty hungry to go to Pizza Hut, but I'll accept Dominos as an easy alternative to getting dressed. Pizza Express is different. It sells product that Italians may recognise as a pizza like substance, and it does so with a McDonalds consistency whilst maintaining a neighbourhood restaurant feel. The food is good, particularly the dough balls - oh the dough balls - they account for my personal dough ball like physique. Try these instead of the garlic ...

...I visited said Pizza Emporium over the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed the meal I was dished up. I find it a reliable restaurant with consistent service, pleasant surroundings and decent tucker. Welcome to my new friend - the PizzaExpress Sloppy Guiseppe Pizza. Great!
Basically, all that a Sloppy Guiseppe style of pizza is, is just spiced beef, green peppers and onions...along with cheese and tomato, of course! It comes in a dark blue cardboard packaging with the PizzaExpress logo dotted around the place. There are gaps in the cardboard so you can seem the pizza really exists inside...and exactly how much topping is on it...of course, I always valiantly try and find the one with the most on, but in theory they should all be the same!
When cooking, if you've frozen the product it's recommended you defrost fully before sticking it in the over. Once you've done that, the cooking times are as followed...

Nearly everybody has got to love pizza. And this pizza is one of the best cook yourself pizza?s I?ve ever eaten. Margherita pizzas are the only type I will eat as I don?t like any toppings. I headed into Waitrose to go and buy a pizza and I felt like getting a thick pizza. This was the only reasonably thick pizza on the shelf. So I though PizzaExpress it is.
--Packaging--
The packaging is dark blue with yellow and white writing on it. There is a cut out on the left hand side of the box, so you can see what the product you are buying looks like. Above the cut out is the PizzaExpress logo. It tells you that ?The original 165 . . . Margherita, mozzarella & tomato. Our famous mozzarella cubes which melt into creamy pools on our original tomato sauce?. It is a very nice looking packet; it really does intrigue you into buying ...
Advantages: not too much to ruin the taste, most people like it Disadvantages: you may wish to have a bit more flavour
as pizza is one of my favourite foods, i am now quite an expert on different pizzas and i have tried a pizza from just about every place that sells them, well maybe not every place but near enough. i don't know many people that don't like pizzas, even if they aren't so keen on the fancy ones which are jam packed full of loads of different toppings they are sure to like something.
this pizza from pizzaexpress is one of, or maybe it is, the plainest pizza you will find. so if you like pizza then you are sure to like this margherita pizza. all it is made up of is the pizza base, the tomato and then the cheese on top. it may sound a little boring but trust me, they are very nice. especially for young children who may be a little bit fussy when it comes to food.
