Me and my by far better half (Jane WE'VE BEEN TOGETHER FOR 40 YEARS) you know the sort of thing.

Well it was August 2nd 1999 and we had just been to visit our new Grand daughter CHOLE ELIZABETH (this pleased Jane as Elizabeth is her middle name) Anyway we were standing at the Bus Stop waiting for the Rainbow 1 (don't they give buses some strange names nowdays).

We were sharing cooing noises when I spied a rather dirty PENNY in the gutter. I said to Jane is it not strange how everyone sees coins on the floor but because of the value decide it is not worth a slipped disk picking them up.

Lets be different I said and picked it up.

"What are you going to do with that" says Jane.

I HEREBY NAME YOU A CHOLE PENNY I said and I would make use of the TREMAR POTTERY CAT MONEY BOX on our kitchen window that is penniless.

So started a career of picking up pennies.

3oth December 2001 along came grandchild number 2, ABIGAIL RIANNE. so we had to amend the name.

Now we called them CHABs (CH for Chole AB for Abigail.)

14th June 2002 Grandchild number 3 (Lewis William).

So the name changed again, yes you guessed it CHABLEs

Then 16th January 2006 another Girl ELLIE MAY.

The new name became a challenge. But then with the Love of our offspring and also of Italy we came up with the name that has to be pronounced with strong Italian Flare

CHABELLIES

So any money found is accompanied with the shout of CHABELLIES, we do get some strange looks.

Gone are the days when in a Q at a bus stop a penny may be left on the floor as it would be too embarracing to pick it up. We now dive straight in.

You may say we are a sad case, what is it worth I hear you cry.

Well on average since that first Chole Penny I have kept records ( as the money gets divided up between them a couple of times a year).

THE FIGURE HAS AVERAGED £60 yes (SIXTY POUNDS) a year.

Of course this begs the question HOW MUCH IS LYING ON OUR STREETS at any one time.

Perhaps we should shun RED NOSE DAY also COMIC RELIEF and have a :----

NATIONAL CHABELLIE DAY when all money picked up can go to a good cause (MY GRANDCHILDREN)

Only Joking I hope you have enjoyed the read, and in future dont be embarresed PICK IT UP as long as it is not in my village.
