Lavender - a great creation
Review of Lavender by daveox

Advantages: beneficial in so many ways
Disadvantages: none

...there are many varieties of lavender on the market, for floral displays, the Butterfly Lavender has to be the most popular, noted for its flower which as its namesake sounds are shaped like a butterfly. It is a very easy plant to grow and it's flowers when in bloom can be used for a variety of household needs. Personally, I cut the heads off when they are close to drying out, I insert some into my Vacuum Cleaner which means everytime I hoover my ...
...smells in your rooms. Lavender should be kept in check, in otherwords once it has stopped flowering, cut back drastically, leaving new shoots intact. Cut off any woody spots of the plant, and if you want your lavendar to grow back into a particular shap, this is also possible when cutting it back. I purchased a metal orb and placed this over my lavender plant. I then trim back my plant to the shape of the orb and this makes is circular in shape ... Read review

Fresh drink for the summer
Review of Mint by Sunnysmiles

Advantages: East to grow and delicious
Disadvantages: none I can think of

Mint is one of the most useful herbs in my herb garden, it's one of the plants I couldn't do without. There are so many type of mint too and my garden has pots and plants of these varieties everywhere. Pineapple mint, which has a pleasant flavour and it good to add to the summer punches or fruit salads. Apple mint has a slight flavour of apples. Black peppermint has a very strong fiery flavour, this is the herb that is used in toothpaste and liqueurs. ...
...this is great for making mint tea or just chewing a leaf to freshen your breath. Curled spearmint this variety has a strong flavour and can also be used for mint tea. Ginger mint is a bit spicy and goes well with black olives and feta cheese and bread. Tashkent spearmint has a concentrated flavour and is excellent for adding extra flavour to chutney, especially chillies and green mango chutneys. On the whole mint is quite an essential part of my ... Read review

the most nutritious part is the smelliest part
Review of Garlic by avd2007

Advantages: health benefits and mosquito repellent
Disadvantages: makes your breath smell

Garlic is known as the wonder drug. It is a member of the onion, shallot and leek family. Garlic has been grown and used in the Mediterranean for thousands of years in cooking and remedies. Although it is just as easy to grow garlic in colder climates. I use garlic in most of the meals I cook for the flavour and because I know the benefits of it. Garlic is known and recommended by doctors to help lower cholesterol, it also helps protect against ...
...If you crush or chop garlic do it over the pan or dish your using as the goodness is in the juice. Organic garlic not only has a better flavour but is higher in sulphate therefore is a more powerful antibiotic. Garlic is a wonderful antioxidant and will help get rid of the radicals in your body. The body does not build up a resistance against garlic so you can be sure it will always be doing you good. The only disadvantage of garlic is that it ... Read review

My friend Rosemary
Review of Rosemary by anwar

Advantages: see review
Disadvantages: see review

...of my favourites is Rosemary. Rosemary is easy to grow, looks and smells wonderful and can be used in many ways. Growing Rosemary. ***************** How to grow Rosemary is the obvious place to start this review. The first thing to say is that Rosemary is really easy to grow and in my experience quite forgiving too! Having said that Rosemary is not easy to grow from seed. I recommend you buy your plant from a nursery. They are really cheap, usually ...
...late now in early may. Rosemary originates from the Mediterranean and so not surprisingly likes to grow in a sunny spot. It also likes sandy soil although my plants grow very happily in clay soil. Planting is really easy; simply dig a hole about 3 inches deep and plant. Rosemary does not like too much water and can survive drought well. Plants can grow up to 1.5 metres tall if you let them. Rosemary can be trimmed and even pruned into shapes if you ... Read review

Beautiful, edible flowers
Review of Nasturtium by queen_rain

Advantages: easy to grow
Disadvantages: attracts caterpillars

...I'm always surprised how expensive nasturtium seeds are in the shops: I've seen them pricedup to £3.90 for 10 seeds. I'll let you into my secret: I bought one packet of seeds ten years ago - and never purchased another one. Instead, I let my plants produce the seeds. Every flower, if visited by pollinating insects, will produce about three seeds - unless of course you eat the flower first. Since each plant produces dozens or hundreds of flowers ...
...So if you collect your nasturtium seeds, you can also provide your friends and neighbours with seed. If you sow your own-harvest seed, you may find that the number of colours and varieties increases every year, because the bees have been visiting other gardens, too. TROUBLE SHOOTING 1. Caterpillars! These are the nasturtium's enemies. It's the pretty cabbage white butterflies that lay their eggs on the underside of the leaves. The eggs hatch caterpillars, ... Read review
