Compost with worms
Advantages: easy to do, free compost eventually, fun! Disadvantages: expensive
There are many different types of worm composting systems available, and with a quick search on the internet you can find advice on how to make your own. I spoke to various people who have some kind of worm composter before making my purchase and found that one of the major pains is separating the worms from the compost when it is ready to be emptied. The Can-o-worms avoids this (for the most part) by virtue of being a stackable system.
The idea ... ...some supplied bedding. To this you add the worms and your vegetable waste. When the bottom tray is 'full' (up to about half way, but when you use it, it is obvious) you add the next tray. Without the bedding it will take longer to fill this tray up, but when it too is full, you add the third tray. Finally when the third tray is full, the bottom tray is ready to be emptied and placed as the new top tray. As a rough guide, for two peoples vegetable ...

Black gold in the garden!
Advantages: Turn rubbish into something really useful Disadvantages: Some work needed
These really are worrying times for our good old planet earth. Everyday, we hear a news story about global warming, dwindling resources are causing conflicts, there are more people lacking basic supplies than people having a comfortable lifestyle, animal and plant species are disappearing before we even know of their existence… I could go on, but you get the picture, I'm sure.
In the face of all this devastation, we understandably feel overwhelmed. ... ...little that individuals can do. In fact, some of these issues are so complex that we can sometimes make things worse by trying to improve them. We probably all know in the back of our mind that we need to make changes, but we are not sure where to start, or we feel it is too much of an effort, or we are not prepared to give up what we have.
To this already dark picture, I would like to add a little known problem, but one which has far reaching consequences, ...

It's Red, Wet and wriggles
Advantages: Good way to recycle kitchen waste Disadvantages: none
Red, Wet and Wriggling.
Worms for composting.
It seems that a few people have problems in keeping worms alive in their wormeries, if you follow these instructions then all should be well. Mine has been up and running for about three years now with no major problems.
Cost.
When bought the bin cost £40.00 from Heighly Gate but prices vary according to size and of course, manufacturer.
Setting up.
My wormery is a proprietary brand and purpose ... ...as long as the same basic principles are followed.
The container for the worms is a wheeled bin with a pre-formed step inside, or conversely a sump hole, there is a tap at the bottom to extract the liquid which should be done weekly as worms are notoriously bad swimmers.
On first getting my wormery all I got was the bin, an open weave plastic sack, drainage material, worm bedding, accelerator, moisture mat and a voucher to send off to get the worms.

Taking Out Your Rubbish Has Never Been Such Fun
Advantages: Educational, Fun, Easy To Set Up and Maintain, Enviromentily Friendly Disadvantages: Well If You Hate Worms.....
originally chose this wormery because I wanted something that was made in the UK and not imported from Australia, which to me wasn't being very enviromently friendly !!.
I purchased it on tuesday morning, and it was delivered at 3pm on the wednesday.
I sat down and read the comprehensive instructions, then rolled my sleeves up, and got stuck in making up the bedding for the worms' first night in their new home.
The wormery came with about a 700g ... ...until I could start feeding them, even though I was instructed not to feed them for a few weeks.
The wormery was placed in a shady spot in the garden (the snap on lid, was quite hard to get on / off which is my only complaint, but then it needs to be secure to stop the worms escaping) Every day I went down to peek inside, and then after they had time to settle down I started to feed them, sparingly at first, as I understood that overfeeding was ...

So many uses for this well known plant
Advantages: many uses Disadvantages: none so far
...a few good varieties of beetroot to grow and these are Pablo which is a round beetroot with a smooth shape, then there is Red Ace which is a good grower and the best to grow in my opinion is the Bolthardy, this is a good plump round shaped beetroot with a deep red colour and strong flavour. Easy to grow with a good yield.
Beetroot can be grown in the ground or in pots around the garden, its quite hardy and easy to grow. It will grow in most types ... ...they are quite partial to beetroot and can ruin a crop if you don’t protect your new shoots.
Beetroot is quite easy to grow and is relatively pest free apart from the birds, but sometimes the leaves will go a little brown and fall off, this is caused by Mangold flies which can be treated with an organic pest spray. Look out for aphids too and keep control of them with organic sprays.
Once you have cared for your beetroot you can harvest them at ...
