My colleagues and I were all equipped with new Plantronicsheadsets after we requested them to assist us on a day to day basis. We spend long periods of time on the telephone and have to keep detailed notes of every conversation we have. Taking notes either on the computer or in the old fashioned way of pen and paper while searching through a file for information you need to pass on to a customer meant that most days we would all go home with terrible back and neck pain after spending 4-5 hours with the phone clamped between our ear and shoulder.
The headsets are expensive at over £120 each but reassuringly well built and very stylish. When we were told we would be getting headsets I pictured something similiar in looks to the headsets in helicopters that would weigh a ton and make us all look frightfully silly. Instead they are very close in looks to bluetooth headsets for mobile phones. There are three ways you can wear the headset. It can either clip behind the ear, to a head strap or a head clip that sits around the neck (something the girls in the office love as it doesn't mess up their hair).
Setting the headphones up is easy. A little block shaped object is inserted into the port at the back of the phone and the button on the headset and block are pressed together until the LCD light turns green. Once the light turns green it indicates that it is now linked to the base unit and converted to a wireless network.
Answering and ending calls is done by pressing the same button on the side of the headset and that pretty much sums up how it is used. It is very easy to get the hang of and as I have it clipped behind my ear I find the sound quality from the earpiece to be far superior when making the comparison with a regular telephone and the people I speak to nolonger ask me to speak up because of a bad line.
In a straw poll of the people I work with the headset has a 100% recommendation rating as the freedom to have both hands free during calls and the lack of back and neck pain in the evenings is a godsend. As the headset works to a distance of 50 metres we can also mingle around the office instead of being condfined to our desks for 8 hours a day making us all much happier employees.
