Phillips 42PF5521D/10
Advantages: Picture and sound Quality, Connectivity, Looks Disadvantages: Weight, plastic stand , remote control
Well after weeks of researching for a new tv, the worry of wether or not LCD or Plasma was a better choice. I decided to ask the advice of my friend whom is a tv engineer. he Told me to go for the plasma although there is nothing wrong with LCD he told me the bigger screens are better with Plasma. He told me for a good value for money TV which has lots of great features and superb picture and sound quality to go for this Phillips model. I cannot ... ...a fantastic choice. The picture is breathtaking compared to my mums 42 phillips with ambilight and pixel plus2 technology. and unlike some plsma/lcd tv's the sound is great. most of these tv's have a very tinny sound. A very good buy for those on a budget. Tv man did say that for a superior tv Panasonic is the way to go. But hey with £700 of a difference to get the same kind of stuff ill buy cheap ...

Philips 42" Plasma Model: 42PF7520D/10
Advantages: Good choice of connections, great sound and picture Disadvantages: Niggly scart and coax sockets
...you would expect with a Philips TV you get all the features and more. There's 2 scart sockets and a DVI-I connection. I have had my laptop connected on this and the quality is amazing. Tip for you on this, buy a long lead of at least 2 metres! You are bound to need it unless you fancy squatting in front of the TV.
The stereo speakers on either side of the unit are almost invisible and yet push out the volume very nicely. There's a lack of bass there ... ...my book.
I have a 2.1 DVD player and a Sky box attached although I tend to use the inbuilt Freeview much more. I bet that if you hooked up a decent surround sound to this TV you would have a great cinema experience. It is, of course, fully HD compatible and has 6 different screen formats. Mine spends most of its time in Widescreen, but its a great picture in Move Expand 16:9.
The silver remote control compliments the image very nicely. Everything ...

expensive but wouldnt be without it
Advantages: Plasma is viewable from nearly every angle Disadvantages: you cant sit on it
Firstly, I am going to try to convince all my fellow ciao members, out there, That every one should have a Plasma screen T.V
And that my choice of Phillips FlatTV 42" Plasma Screen, is second to none.
I believe every home should have one.
It started last Christmas, 2004
We were having to have New year's eve at home, in our average size two bedroom flat, That I occupy as a live in warden for the elderly. In sheltered Housing accommodation.
we ... ...or should I say Mr Musselwhite has!!!!
having moved to our flat and selling our nice big three bedroom house,
understandably we were limited for space.
we wouldn't have left home with out our 32" wide screen T.V
complete with Oak Cabinet,
BUT!! We were all cramped up.
Feeling Low,
as we anticipated New Years Eve with the parents, at our home,
we plodded around Comet superstore.
OUR LOVE AFFAIR BEGAN !!!!!
There it was our Phillips 42" Plasma

M. Thomson
Advantages: None Disadvantages: Poor Support Services
...in Ayrshire and sent to Philips only repair agent in the UK based in Manchester after many letters, phone calls (Philips charged @15p per min) to retailer, repairer and Philips I finally got it back 20th Dec 2006
They extended original warranty by 6 months just as well 2 fault on replacement unit 9th July 2007 was repaired and ready to be delivered back to me 24th July 2007 I have not yet accepted delivery yet even though they have now threatened ... ...the set back to me after the 20th Aug 2007 warranty ended 14th Aug 2007 You seriously don’t want to get involved with what I though was a reputable brand as I have done nothing but phone write email at my own personal cost and time and totally stressed out with the whole thing.
I wish I had never got involved in with Philips.
Really poor service and think they are doing you a favour when they finally get round to repairing your TV
Sense and Simplicity ...
