Playgro Rattle Ball

I am sure this playgro rattleball has been available for several years now I have used it with many children both children with and without special needs. This ball is suitable for children over the age of 6 months.

This rattle ball from playgro is made of hard plastic. It has three colours one end blue which is linked to the other end which is yellow with an orange wavy joining piece. The yellow and blue ends have been moulded with holes in them so you can see the rattle ball in the centre the small centre rattle ball is green and purple.

I have not got one to hand at this present time to measure and tell you the size but it is not a small ball or a football size its somewhere in between.

Now to play with this ball.

I am playing with Jo
The colours are nice for visual stimulation has nice bright colours. It’s ideal for eye tracking exercises I hold the ball one side then move it to the other hand or up and down and Jo’s eyes follows it from one side to the other . I then hide the ball behind my back does Jo looks for it? No out of sight out of mind, when Jo is a bit more mature s---he will try to find it.
This ball is also good for stimulating auditory development. Shake the ball and Jo will track the rattle sound it makes. Now roll the ball to Jo it will rattle as it moves. The ball rolls well.Be careful its quite hard so do not throw hard. Enjoys rattling and rolling the ball to maker the sounds.

Jo picks up the ball and explores it looking inside through the gaps at the small ball in the centre poking fingers in trying to touch it. . The plastic that the ball is made of is hard and smooth. Touching all types of textures is good to develop tactile awareness this ball is hard and smooth; we give Jo a soft ball to compare it with.

Jo is using and practicing gross motor skills as he crawls after the ball and stretches to reach it when I teasingly hold it at the extremities of reach.

While playing with Jo I am talking and Jo is saying a few words too a good opportunity for language development saying ball hard, noise, up, down using language at Jo’s level.

Would I recommend this Hard Playgro rattle ball?
Well it is very durable, easy to clean, There are many balls available with bells and rattles in them mostly soft balls It probably would not be my first choice of sensory ball, its ok, I would have to think about the child and needs to see if this ball or a different one would be best
