Advantages Advantages Great for Creative Play

Disadvantages Disadvantages Have to be careful not to lose small parts

Trying to select an appropriate toy for a young child is never easy. The selection available in most toyshops is huge, and many toys may seem equally appealing to a child when they are piled up on the shelves of a shop. However, as most parents know, toys which looked so wonderful in the toyshop do not always hold their appeal once you get them home. Often, the '80 - 20' rule is said to apply. In other words, most children will play with 20% of their toys, 80% of the time. Of course, in order to select a gift there are several other factors which you need to take into account. The price is ... more

    Advantages Advantages Fantastic play scenarios

Disadvantages Disadvantages Lots of little bits

I remember playing with playmobil when I was young and loved it! I always think if you have good memories of a toy from your childhood that it is a good benchmark to go by. Playmobil has certainly evolved from when I was little. The figures from around 1977 used to be taller with more joints, but I must admit I like the "newer" style of playmobil that I think originated in about 1990. The figures are now smaller and encompass many features that we regard ... more

Advantages Advantages Playmobil aids creative thinking

Disadvantages Disadvantages Tiny parts that go missing

Playmobil is among one of the most well known names in our family, we have one nephew who sleeps, eats and dreams Playmobil. He is going on five now and every birthday, Christmas or other special occasion puts Playmobil at the top of the list. I have to be totally honest and say that although it is relatively expensive it is so well made and true to life that it is worth the amount of money that you pay for it. Like any child he loves to sit and browse through the latest Playmobil catalogue and while we endlessly look at the prices he eyes up the latest kit with anticipation and excitement ... more

Advantages Advantages Encourages pretend play, develops fine motor skills, durable, collectible, a theme for every interest

Disadvantages Disadvantages Easy to lose tiny pieces

My son has always been extraordinarily interested in pretend play, so when he seemed to be moving beyond Fisher Price's Little People, I went on the hunt for something a little more advanced for him. That's when we discovered Playmobil. ***What Is Playmobil?*** Playmobil is basically a whole miniature world for your child to play in. It's theme-based, with something to fascinate every child, boy or girl. ***Themes Include:*** ~Knights ~Vikings ~Fairy Tale ~Victorian Dollhouse ~Modern Dollhouse ~Police ~Construction ~Fire Fighters ~Airport ~Old West ~Space ~Holiday ~Railroad ~Pirates ~Farming ... more

Advantages Advantages Limited only by the imagination

Disadvantages Disadvantages some parts are just a bit too small

In my attic and some of my cupboards I have a great selection of Playmobil sets which my son played with for years. I've also passed some on to nephews and nieces, but kept the best to pass on to any grandchildren. The Camper Van The White and Yellow Van has been driven round my living rooms ( this house and the last house )a distance which I hate to measure if scaled up. It has a removable White top which reveals a sleeping area where the beds can be removed. Plastic covers of course. There is a nice round table which can also be removed for outside picnics. All doors open and the steering ... more
