shakin'
Advantages: good story and something nice to act out Disadvantages: slightly confusing in character switches
its a simple script and a perfect opputunity to act out
a rewrite of an old play.
if your looking around for something to perform, this is it.
there are many ways it can be done and not many actors required.
this book has made me realise that there are lot of people with problems. and after reading it i actuallymade me stop a few things that were troubling me.

Perfect mix of opposites.
Advantages: Funny, clever, ironic. Disadvantages: Perhaps too localised.
This play is a clear Willy Russell work. The stereotypical Liverpudlians throughout bring the story to life whether reading it or watching it.
The stage directions prove great detail as the set is completely imaginable in the reader's head and easy for a director to design.
This very conversational based play brings out a high sense of comedy due to Russell's observational humour, the everyday events that are proved to be funny through the medium ... ...event of a bride to be o longer wanting to marry her fiance as she will be tied down, sheds light on such heartbreaking situations, for example the coincidence of the stag and hen parties ending up at the same nightclub.
I would definately recommend this for a read, a watch and a performance as Russell has a magic touch of taking you away from your reality to another. ...

Frank McGuinness... A great play-write!
Advantages: Easy to follow, sharply funny Disadvantages: Wish there was more detail in individual stories told
I bought this book ages ago (I think it was only £0.50 from a car-boot sale), I only finished it yesterday, I think it took me a good 2 months to read it; this was mainly due to work and other obligations. The book is adapted from the play version which I have heard has done very well in its target market.
I would read this book again, absolutely, but only if I didn't have other things occupying my time. Its a book that is easy to follow, and that ... ...to remember too much information :D
I read another book by Frank McGuinness quite some time ago but I don't remember it being as enjoyable as I found "Someone who'll watch over me".
The basic story outline is as follows;
The introduction to the book is called "Three men - three nationalities - a single cell". A reading from this introduction is also as follows "The production is no less sparse than the programme notes. In the black, bare space ...

Salome: Decadent and surreal
Advantages: Descriptions, surrealism, style Disadvantages: Choppy dialogue, little plot development, unsympathetic characters
...not the play for you. Salome employs staccato sentences with long, surreal descriptions filled with flowing adjectives. The characters are introspective, openly lustful, and dwell in a Byzantine-esque court, living out their fantasies. Perverse attractions reign: Herod's lusts for his wife's daughter as does a Syrian in the court; she for the frigid prophet Iokannan; the Syrian's friend lusts for him. Murder and suicide is triggered. In my opinion ... ...to chaste detatchment and disgust. Salome plays the role of suppressed artist as well as a young woman on the brink of sexual realisation. The style is unusual and definitely not to everyone's taste, but those who enjoy the decadent, aesthetic style of Baudelaire, for example, will enjoy this. The hyperreal descriptions of jewels and bodies are certainly beautiful in an extravagant way. The play encapsulates the height of late C19 decadence: materialism, ...

There are Some, if you Look Carefully
Advantages: Something in here for everyone Disadvantages: Not as wide a range as the men's solilquies
...the more colourful theatre-goers of Shakespeare's time. And, of course, the heights of poetic finesse approached by Shakespeare in many of his monologues have been written of many, many times. Macbeth, Hamlet, Richard (II and III) are just a few of the many MALE characters to whom Shakespeare attributed beautiful, noble thoughts in language that leaves mere mortals gasping for more.
I say just a few, with reference to Shakespeare's protagonists. ... ...the very best examples of Shakespeare's writing for women. Towards the end of Act 4 Scene 3 Emilia, wife of the despised Iago, offers Desdemona (and the audience), her views on why men should consider blaming themselves for any failings they find in their wives:
'Let husbands know
Their wives have sense like them: they see and smell,
And have their palates both for sweet and sour
As husbands have.'
Brilliant!! And the whole soliloquy contains ...
