The Playskool Ball Popper was bought for my Niece for her 1st birthday (October 2005) and also for my Daughter for Christmas 2005. Both times they were bought from Argos for £19.99 but this item often has a special offer on it - at one point it was reduced to £15.99 and at the moment if you buy 2 Playskool items you get a free Pound n Cheese toy (offer available at Argos).
Firstly the basics:
DOES IT NEED ASSEMBLING?
Not really. You just need to fix the 2 slopes together and put the batteries in and away you go! Probably took 2 minutes once the battery compartment was opened and closed again as it is fixed with 1 small screw.
It comes with 5 coloured balls which are placed in the hole. These can be viewed once in the tube as the front of the toy is see through.
WHAT BATTERIES DOES IT TAKE?
It takes 4 x D batteries which are not included and need to be bought separately.
HOW DO YOU TURN IT ON?
There is a huge red button / knob on the top that you push down. It is easy for baby to do once they know what to push. It will then stop when it's run it's cycle.
There is also a 'mains' switch at the back for parents to turn it off and on.
DOES IT HAVE MUSIC?
Yes it does have music. Rather crazy tunes but easily recognizable for baby as they will learn that the music corresponds to the toy.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Once the red button is pushed the fan will start blowing air around the tube. This pushes the balls out of the tube, up through the top and then the balls roll around the top bit, fall through to the next level and roll back down to another hole where the whole cycle starts again.
It is really funny as sometimes the balls shoot out and fly across the room. This is how the balls can get lost but it makes for great entertainment!
The ball popper is made out of strong plastic and there is nothing baby can break off and swallow. The colours of the toy and the balls are bright and cheerful.
IS IT WORTH BUYING?
YES! This toy is fantastic! My Daughter was 6 months at Christmas and she could sit with it in front of her and watch the balls go round. Then as she learnt to crawl she could chase the stray balls that popped too far out of the toy. My daughter also learnt how to turn it on and at 11 months will now quite happily put the balls in, turn it on and play with it for ages.
It is also useful if your hairdryer breaks! My son who is 6 years old who also likes to play with this - has taught his sister how to look over the top into the hole so the air blows her hair!
Advantages: Bright colours, fun for adults and kids, batteries seem to last a while Disadvantages: balls easily lost
Wow!! This toy is so much fun!! This toy was bought for Sophia for Xmas by her Nana. At that time, she was 8 months old and as this toy is designed for babies 9 months plus, she was slightly too young for it, however, great fun was had by her Mummy and Daddy instead. This toy sells for around £19.99 and we got it from Argos, although I am sure it can be bought from all major toy stores as it is made by Playskool!
The ball popper comes in a bright ... ...it. Dont worry, you dont have to be a flat pack queen, this is just a matter of slotting two pieces of plastic together to make the winding slope. The item requires 4 size D batteries which are installed at the back of the ball popper. There is a tiny screw, as is always the case with toys of this kind and then your away. There is also a small on/off switch at the back too.
The machine is operated with a big plunger type button at the back, that ...

Poppin' Fun Review ofPlayskool Activity Ball Popperby
Stiletto1
Advantages: Easy to operate and great fun! Disadvantages: Only disadvantage I can think of is it requires batteries.
...4 for £3.99.
The Playskool Ball Popper only requires minimal assembly and is basically a chute contraption - the brightly coloured balls roll down the chute into the clear tube and are then whooshed up by gusts of air out of the top of the tube and back down the chute again. It's a sturdy enough toy which will withstand a fair amount of punishment I think. It's certainly been bashed about a fair bit so far and shows no ill-effects! The start mechanism ... ...ones to press and one of the good things about this toy is that it only operates for short bursts - about a minute at a time - before switching itself off so at least the batteries don't get run down unnecessarily. As the balls are rolling round it plays a variety of tunes which in themselves are fairly entertaining and include Pop Goes The Weasel, Flight Of The Bumble Bee, Rocking Robin and Nice One Cyril! From time to time one or two balls shoot ...

Advantages: Is funny to watch, makes children (and adults) laugh out loud Disadvantages: batteries required!
...Being made by Playskool it is made from tough quality plastic, and is easy to understand and manipulate by little people.
I have only seen this advertised once on television, and is available in the Argos catalogue, possibly in major toy stores but I haven’t really been looking.
It costs £19.99 and well worth every penny!!! ...

Brightly coloured plastic battery taking noisy toy. Just the sort of toy i always vow not to buy but end up getting anyway. I am for a change pleased I did. We just popped in the batteries pushed the plunger and away it went. It has 5 balls that a stream of air pushes around the unit till they hover for a few seconds above then roll back round ... ...year old love to watch it go round. You geussed it they love to grab the baals too. My 5 year old was quite intrested in trying to figure out how it works and trying to shove other objects inside to see if they would float.
On the downside its really noisey and eats batteries at an alarming rate. Also my 1 year old managed to get his hand stuck down the tube.
Still all in all a hit with younger children up to about 30 months. ...
