Mr Potato Head has done it again. Many of us at gadgetshop HQ had given him up as lost ... more
when news of his defection to the Dark Side reached us. But salvation is within sight once again with his latest incarnation - Spider Spud. Now ole' Potato Head himself has donned the famous red Spidey Suit beloved of Peter Parker and is set to web-up an increasingly crime-ridden world. After all, that is what a half spud/half spider/half superhero is born for. Included in this truly transformational set alongside the classic potato base is a spud-shaped Spiderman costume, eyes, ears, nose, mouth, arms, shoes, Spidey Mask and web-producing weapon of doom. Which is not to be used lightly. At the end of a hard day's crime busting as the legendary Spidey, the suit can come off and once again return Mr Potato Head to his regular job as a mild-mannered international icon. Doing what Mr Potato Head does best. Whatever that is.

deepest mechanical growl of James Earl Jones, the statuesque presence of David Prowse and the plastic body of a small (but somewhat flexible) potato-shaped device. Put them all together and what has one got? Yes. The very incarnation of Darth Tater, in Mr Potato Head form. Aided and abetted by his ever-faithful Spud Trooper, Darth is back to lead the Empire in a duel to the death against the forces of the Rebel Alliance and its fearless droid Artoo Potatoo. And, like all Potato Heads, he comes with layer upon layer of clothing and accessories to deliver the most authentic evil-looking ground-based vegetable spin-off toy imaginable. Tater not only possesses his trusty black cape and bucket-like life support helmet, but also an authentic-looking (if small) light sabre. These elements are perfectly offset by a set of trademark Potato Head Eyes, which can have a rather unsettling effect late at night after a few Appletisers. The force is strong in this one, if you haven't already guessed. And it's there to be unleashed.

characters arrived for testing at gadgetshop HQ. For there was something eerily realistic about dressing a plastic potato as an Imperial Stormtrooper, complete with laser masher for added authenticity (set to stun to spare the skin of the Princess, naturally). For there's simply no mistaking the somewhat startling news that Mr Potato Head has gone over to the dark side to become the ever-faithful, armour-clad henchman of Darth Tater. Indeed, it took our colleague Geoff some while to accept this as hard fact. But he took it like a man in the end.Now, with the Jedi in retreat and Tater's shock troops - and potatoes - spreading out across the Galaxy with mashers at the ready, few can stand in their way without fearing a dashed good chipping. And, when the fun has been had and the Rebel Alliance crushed, the Spud Trooper's many parts and accessories stow neatly inside his potatoey body. Which is thoughtful of him. Beware. The Force is strong in this one.

Advantages: Hours of fun and lots of mix and match accessories. Disadvantages: non unless you don't like spuds!
This is a fantastic toy for a pre-schooler. We were actually given this as a present for my daughter on her first birthday - she was three lst week and is still playing with it. She has had countless hours of fun playing with Mr Potato Head infact so has my 6 yea old son aswell - who loved the films Toy Story and Toy Story 2 which is where he first saw Mr Potato Head!
We have had many hours of giggles and laughs where they have both ... ...should be and the nose in place of an ear and silly things like that!
It is a classic toy that I don\'t think would ever goout of fashion - it is renowned as being a classic face changing friend for children.
What do you get with this toy?
Mr Potato Head comes with lots of mix and match face changing accessories such as different eyes , eyebrows, ears, moustaches, noses, glasses, mouths, hair, hats, bags, caps ... more

What do you get with this toy?
Mr Potato Head comes with lots of mix and match face changing accessories such as different eyes , eyebrows, ears, moustaches, noses, glasses, mouths, hair, hats, bags, caps etc.... these all have the added bonus of you being able to store them inside the body of Mr Potato Head himself. There is a multitude of choices for you to make when deciding how creative to be with this toy! and you can also buy extra accessories from some good toy shops if you want to from as little as £3 a set! This gives hours more of fun for the children at a small price - they wont get bored with new funny faces to create!
How much can I expect to pay for one?
Anything in the range of £5 up to about £20 for the more advanced and more technical varieties. It depends on whether you want a basic Mr Potato Head like this one being reviewed or one of the more advanced ones such as the Mr Potato Head Pirate which you can also get! I must admit I might have to invest in one of these for my 2 year old step-nephew soon!!!
What ages is this for? Anything from 3 years - 5 years.
It's a must buy for any first time mums and dads who want their baby to experience laughs and giggles and hours of face changing fun!!!!
Advantages: Hours and hour of endless fun. Disadvantages: Small parts end up everywhere!!!
When I was younger I was always jealous of my brother, he got scalectrics Atari's and MR Potato Head, I got Dolls and MRS Potato head (stereotypical or What?). So you can imagine I was over the move when I gave birth to a son, time to buy all them toys I always wanted!
As soon as he was old enough I bought him Mr Potato head. I'm sure it cost around the ten pound mark still then and that was over five years ago. He's nine now and I've just had to ... ...and he still loves him.
A little history - Mr Potato head has been around since the 1950's, when George Lerner created a set of plastic face pieces. The pushpin shaped noses; ears, eyes and mouthparts were designed to be easily pushed into fruits or vegetables to transform the food into a never-ending assortment of funny-faced playmates. It was around 10 years later before the plastic body was added to the toy.
And here's a useless bit of information ...

Now if its fun you want then this Mr Potato Head is just brilliant. I got mini one of these free with a McDonalds Happy Meal about 2 years ago. Since then i've purchased 3 Mr Potato heads for my little boy. He loves playing with all the different parts, Mustache, Eyes, Nose, Feet, Teeth and Hat. And the fact that you can stick the parts anywhere on the Mr Potato Head is a bonus. This toy creates hours of fun and its one that keeps coming back out ...

Advantages: A fantastic toy ... looks great and is a lot of fun to play with !!! Disadvantages: None !
~~~ Introduction ~~~
I recently reviewed MrPotatoHead's wacky journey to the "Dark Side" where he was transformed into the villain known as "Darth Tater". It would seem, however, that he has redeemed himself and now plans to fight crime ... in his new role as "SPIDER SPUD" !!!
~~~ Spider Spud ~~~
During the day time Peter PotatoHead holds down a job as a journalist for the Daily Planet but whenever trouble is on the horizon he quickly becomes Spider Spud !!! Yup, those clever folk at Hasbro HQ have done it again and have created a wonderfully authentic Spider Man costume that completely hides MrPotatoHead's identity and transforms him into one of the most well known costumed crime fighters of all time !!!
In the box you get the standard MrPotatoHead toy as well as all the elements needed to create this ...
Advantages: Another unique transformation for Mr Potato Head ... and this time there's music too !!! Disadvantages: More expensive and harder to find than previous themed Mr Potato Head toys.

I guess MrPotatoHead always fancied himself as a bit of an archeologist ... probably due to the fact that pototoes are grown underground. Or could it be that his previous appearances as Darth Tater, Spider Spud and Optimash Prime simply weren't exciting enough ??? Either way, MrPotatoHead is back !!!
~~~ Introducing ... Idaho Spud ~~~
Idaho Spud may be a well respected Prfoessor of Archeology and Ancient History but it doesn't take long until the need for adventure has him dashing off into underground tombs in search of "fortune and glory" ... and the designers at Hasbro have once again created a unique look for MrPotatoHead that fans of the Indiana Jones franchise will instantly recognise and love.
Whenever I think about Indiana Jones I get a mental image of Harrison Ford in his ...
~~~ Introduction ~~~
I remember as a young child (sometime during the late seventies) being given a MrPotatoHead as a present ... he was a wacky looking character with the body of a potato and weird features which you could re-arrange. I have fond memories of the toy and my mum even has a few pictures of me playing with it. However, it wasn't by any means a new toy ... as MrPotatoHead first appeared way back in the early fifties !!!
It was created in the US in 1949 by George Lerner and has been produced and distributed by Hasbro since 1952. It has never been out of production since that date and is one of the most popular toys of all time. It was also a toy that made history by being the first ever toy to be advertised on TV.
Times have changed and toys have moved on but MrPotatoHead remains as popular as ever ...
