Stuart just wanted his father to love him, but he was made to believe he was too naughty to be loved. Finally, David Howarth was sent to prison for abusing Stuart's young sisters....
more...Nobody knew the truth about Stuart's abuse until one fateful day when his father tried it again and Stuart fought back in the only way he knew how. Stuart Howarth spent the first thirty years of his life in mental and physical hell. After years of emotional torment and despair, at the age of 32 Stuart felt an overwhelming urge to see his father (who he now knew was actually his stepfather), then living in Wales. Seeking reconciliation, Stuart was only to be met by the same old abusive man. The rage, pain and confusion boiled over in Stuart and he fought back, killing his stepfather. When Stuart's story came to light in the courtroom, it was so terrible that he received the minimum possible sentence for his crime and only served thirteen months in Strangeways prison in Manchester. But while in prison, the cruel system compounded the crimes of his evil abuser, and he suffered at the hands of the prison guards. What happened to him during those months led to him suing the Home Office and Strangeways on his release and winning his case. This is the story of a sweet-natured boy who grew into a brave young man and refused to allow himself to be a victim any longer. From the AuthorChild Abuse has become a part of everyday life because we choose to ignore it - it is too nasty to even consider that it happens. The truth is, it happens and in order to learn we must first of all listen to survivors stories. Not only will it educate society, it will heal the survivor. Every mother and father has a duty to protect and educate their children so that they can feel safe in todays world. Survivors - every day we are sad, down, lonely, shameful, guilty, depressed or suicidal - the abuser wins!Break free look forward not back and be sure in your heart that you are never alone. My love, thoughts and prayers are with the still suffering and may your God be with you x See all Product Description

Full review
I was recently given this book to read by a family member, and to be honest when I asked her what the story was about I was quite dubious as to whether I wanted to read it or not as this is not the type of story I would personally go for myself.
I must say though that once I started reading I could not put it down and had completed it in two days.

This book has twenty chapters, an acknowledements page and an Introduction which goes :
" There are thousands of kids out there, just like me who suffer abuse on a daily basis. You can turn a blind eye and consider this too nasty to read about, or you can take a courageous step forward and share a few moments from my world. We can only bring about change by doing something postitve and being prepared to listen. This is my story."

The book as a whole, is a mans biography of how he spent his childhood being abused both mentally and sexually by his step father.
All he wants is for his father to love him and thinks that what is being done to him is normal, untill he finds that he has been doing the same to his sisters, even his handicapped sister. He is made to eat his own bodily waste and food from the floor and made to watch pornographic images with his dad whilst preforming sexual acts on his dad.

Without giving too much of the story away, which im trying not to do, he ends up in prison as a young man for protecting himself, where again he suffered mental abuse form the prison wardens, he finally gets to air out what happened to him as a child in court and the judge actually says that it was one of the most graphic cases he had ever come across, he was still sentenced to two years, for what I wont say, again not wanting to ruin the story.

when Stuart was finally released he deceided that he would make a formal complaint against the prisons he attended for the years of abuse he suffered there. He won his case and was awarded damages.

About Stuart

Staurt now lives in Manchester with his partner Tracey who had stood by him through think and thinHe is now assisting others in recovering from post truama and addiction.

This book is not for the faint hearted as it contains some graphic material which can make you feel sick. It makes you wonder how people could do the things that Stuart had had done to him. But its an excellant read and really does open your eyes as to what goes on behind closed doors.
I hope I havent given too much of the story away as this was not my intention.
Get this book its fab.
