The University of Plymouth is the largest university in the South West with over 30,000 students currently enrolled and based on student population, is the UK's 4th biggest university behind London and Manchester's universities. There are nearly 3,000 staff employed at the university and its annual income is in the range of 110 million pounds.
It has developed enormously within the past 15 years thanks to great enthusiasm behind the ...
...I haven't looked back once! Plymouth University is quite renowned for civil engineering, especially civil and coastal engineering due to its location.

As you can imagine, the nightlife in a university town is brilliant! Every pub/club/bar in the area wants to take advantage of us students and we let them! Each venue has its special nights where they offer their best deals for example, Cuba has pound a pint on Mondays, the roundabout ... more

Why Plymouth

Advantages: Close to the sea, not too expensive
Disadvantages: Campus could be better

...on the main campus in Plymouth City Centre. Since arriving in Plymouth 18 months ago, I have had the time of my life. I think that the university itself is working very hard to shrug off its 'old poly' image and develop into a uni of the 21st century. The facilities aren't bad; the campus itself is fairly compact but expanding rapidly. On the main campus you will find most of what you need; Student's Union (bar, shop, beer 'garden', canteen e.t.c.), ...
...academic life? The nightlife in Plymouth isn't bad. There are a variety of clubs and bars to suit the tastes of most, in fact you should be able to find at least one 'student night' in town for each day of the week. For those looking for some lighter entertainment, we have a fairly new complex located close to the seafront encompassing a 15 screen Warner Village cinema, Megabowl, McDonalds, a nightclub, bar and more. There are plenty of opportunities ...

My home that is Plymouth

Advantages: cheap booze, cheap accommodation, lairy lads and ladettes,
Disadvantages: The Union (see below) needs improving although is great destination for cheap booze

...with studying a degree in Plymouth is not down to the layout, lecturers or library but down to the excellent nightlife and cheap alcaholic beverages that entice you to party every night of the week (probably why I'm repeating my first year!). Whether it is a Sunday and you want to head down to Heroes for a pound a pint or a Friday when you want to check out Millenium for a £12 all inclusive including admission, cloak room, food and drinks, you will ...
...(hopefully 2nd division next year!!), Plymouth is the home to a football club with a long history and some of the most passionate supporters around. Plymouth Pavillions is home to The Plymouth Raiders basketball team on Saterday nights for b-ball fans to enjoy some of the best basketball outside of the Budweiser League. With Plymouth Albion only just last week losing their 43 game unbeaten run, rugby is another spectator sport avilable in this great ...

Plymouth University!

Advantages: Great atmosphere, lovely city, friendly supportive staff and students!
Disadvantages: None.

Plymouth is a great city making it a good choice for a University. If you are thinking you need to get away from the busy life of the bigger cities Plymouth might be the place for you! But don't think that means Plymouth doesn't have the shops, nighlife and great surroundings you expect from your time in Uni... it does! Plymouth is a relativley small city with only approx 250,000 people, this is for some a negative but for me and many others the ...
...Technology and the University of Plymouth Colleges. These cater for almost any type of course you'd like to study from a PHD in brain surgery to a degree in Surf studies!!! The chidcare facilities on campus are really good with a nursery called "freshlings" which friends with children have told me is great! It takes up to 50 children between the ages of 0 and 5 and is open between 08.15 and 17.45 all year round. Being so close to both the sea and ...

All work and no play?

Advantages: Everything that you need is close by.
Disadvantages: Plymouth is a 2 hour drive away from Bristol!

Plymouth University is (obviously) situated in the city of Plymouth, which is right down in the depths of south-west England. It is a good place to come to if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the more larger cities, but not if you want to be close enough to go home. So what courses are on offer? Everything from surfing (yes, they do a degree in surfing!) to nursing; and from maths to architecture. How do I apply? Through the usual ...
...The University of Plymouth provides a wide number of halls for students to rent out, that are lia dout in numerous bloks that involve single bedrooms with either en-suite or shared bathroom/ shower/ toilet facilities. However, all of these generally host communal sitting and eating/ dining areas so watch out that your food just doesn't go missing! However, there is also many places around the city that are private housing that can hold numerous students. ...

Engineering at Plymouth

Advantages: Excellent teaching
Disadvantages: Distance from main campus (good and bad)

Plymouth has been proven as the best place to study Civil Engineering in the whole of the UK. Along with the high teaching standards, the Technology / Engineering department is situated slightly away from the main campus, which gives a more kind of friendly feel to it. It's probably less than 1 minutes walking from the sea, which is always nice on a warm sunny day. It is however, still only a very short walk into the city centre, where you can find ...
...are all the necessary facilities, such as computers (not too many, but with the lower student numbers, there are nearly always some available). The lecturers are all very nice genuine people (most of which continue their work as Engineers etc. in their free time). The night life is obviously going to be very good with so many pubs and clubs to choose from, but it's not difficult to escape from if you want an early night. Things such as the libraries ...

Social Work at Plymouth University.

Advantages: Amazing course if you have the right kind of value base!
Disadvantages: No good if you are a fascist! (is that a disadvantage?????)

I am a student social worker at the University of Plymouth, I began my course last year and have recently progressed into my second year. The course is three years in length and has been designed to facilitate employment based learning. Once qualified the course provides you with the new nationally recognised qualification in social work and an honours degree. To be accepted onto the course, the potential student needs to have achieved either; ---Five GCSE's grades A-C (including maths and english.) ---Three A/S levels. ---Other qualifications such as a BTEC/Access course. (Many other qualifications will be accepted, too many and too complicated to attempt to list here, the admissions team at plymouth uni are available to explain these, the e-mail address will follow!!!!!) The course develops a broad range of academic skills ...

A warm and friendly place to study!

Advantages: Wide range of courses, nice campus, cheaper fees, free laptop!!
Disadvantages: It's not in the city centre

The College of St.Mark & St.John (known as Marjon) is situated in Plymouth, Devon. The college is highly rated in national league tables and has been ranked top ten in the National Student Survey for the past two years. Many people think that Marjon is part of Plymouth University, but it is actually affiliated to Exeter University and all degrees are awarded from there. Marjon and Plymouth Uni are completely separate, and there is a lot of rivalry between the two! Marjon is a lot smaller that Plymouth, with only around 5000 students; Plymouth on the other hand have around 30,000 students! So if you are looking for a much smaller university in the South West, then Marjon is the place to come! Believe it or not Marjon has a 160 year old history. The college first began in Chelsea as a teacher training college, however it moved from ...

We love u Marjons We do, oh Marjons we love u

Advantages: Fantastic Nite Life!
Disadvantages: Many People are 2 faced

The college of St Mark and St John is a relatively small sports University. It is affiliated to the University of Exeter. Everyone who has ever been to the college of st Marks and St John calls it 'Marjons'. Originally Marjons was set in Chelsea London, in the 1970s, it moved to Plymouth due to the planned construction of a ring road around the centre of london, part of the road was going to go through the heart of the college. The ringroad was never made. Marjons is suited to the North of plymouth, just a 2 minute walk away from the Notorious Derriford Hospital. Luckly I have only had to go there once, I was playing Pitch and Putt, a young kid Teed of and the ball hit me straight on the head. I was in Causality for over 6 hours!!! In the Mornings if you are living on campus, you get woken up around 6.30 by the sounds ...
