INTRODUCTION

On first inspection this is a very neat little device that sits very comfortably in the hand. It is slick with good design. The detachable lid is a neat feature which allows the feel of better accessibility to the device itself. What you get under the lid is an efficient e-reader that is easy to navigate and provides good screen visibility.

MAIN FEATURES

The 5 inch display with a 600x800 166dpi is standard and adequate although the text is black and white only. The system is powered by a Samsung 400mhz Linux Operating System which drives the features and operations well. However, page turns do seem a little slow at times. The changeable Li-Polymer 1000 mAh batteries are good for about 7000 pages without recharging. The dimensions of the entire product is a neat 118mm x 140mm x12mm which makes it entirely portable.
From start up the device takes about 20 seconds to fully load all the screen information and you can hold as many files as your SD card can handle. What is a very handy feature is that you can alter the settings easily so the start up screen can take you to any location which includes the page of the book that you are currently reading.

The internal memory is adequate allowing you to hold about 15 folders. All books are in both the internal and SD cards are listed in the menu index.

Alongside each book listings you find different icons which inform you as to the state of each book as either not opened, being read or read. For books currently being read, the page is remembered.

In terms of the interface, you can access the menu by holding down the OK button. The menu gives you loads of options and you can manage all of your books and folders. This includes moving folders from internal memory to the SD card and renaming files to your own preference. Your files can also be set to be represented in lists or thumbnails. This is all neat and tidy and you real feel that you have your own e-book 'book shelf' and the books can be moved about as you wish.

As you would expect, books and be searched and accessed using several filters which includes, by author, titles and series.

The Pocketbook 360 reads all form of standard e-book files and I don't intend to get to technical about this. The average user would be happy to just download e-book with the confidence that they can be actually read.

THOUGHTS

The 360 does not represent a technological revolution but it is a great introduction to e-book reading if this is your bag and believe where the future lies. For me, such devices would be used due to convenience rather than choice. Somehow you can't beat the feel and smell of the paperback. The price range of £150 - £200 is also relatively expensive and you can but an awful lot of books for this alone.
