After I had gone through the grief of losing my husband of 26 years and widowed for 4 lonely years I met a guy who 'did' it for me! I went into that relationship blind, gullible, vulnerable, trusting and perhaps a bit naively. When it ended, the way it did, I was left with so many questions of Why?? Which I never ever got answers to. A lot of hurt was caused to me and my family and a rift occurred between me and my family and friends. It took 2 years to resolve the issues caused by him. I posted it in this section because for some reason, when I go to the Poetry section or Poetry Challenge, I only have the option to "Edit Review" and not "Write A Review". Does anyone know why? They all have a cause; A point to make. But don't give a toss, 'Bout the heartbreak they create. Men and women like you and me, That's what they'd say if asked who they are. But what you'll find if you unlock the key, Is creatures of barbarity, nature having no par. They planted their bombs to go off in waves, Knowing their victims could be of many. Women, men, children or babes, Of lesser value to them than a worn-out penny. To them the politicians speak strong words, and we shed our tears and vent our disgust. This poem was written when I was about 17. It's immature, crass in places, and there are quite a few things about it that make me cringe on re-reading. It also goes on too long. On the other hand, there are some lines in it that still stir in me the passion of the time and of which I'm still rather proud. I've tried re-writing it several times, in an attempt to preserve the good lines whilst cutting out the naivety - both philosophical and technical. I can't do it. As soon as I start editing, the fervour and the flavour of the piece are lost, and it feels false. I simply can't write like that ... more
