Thehonesttruth
Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -
Where are the fairies? Where can we find them? We've seen the fairy rings, They leave behind them! When they have danced all night, Where do they go? Lark, in the sky above, Sat, do you know? Is it a secret No one is telling? Why, in your garden Surely they're dwelling! No need for journeying, Seeking afar: Where there are flowers, There fairies are. However, if looking around your garden seems like too much trouble, you can find a wonderful selection ... ...seven books in the flower fairy series, but in 1982 the publishers decided to publish an eighth, Flower fairies of the winter, so that there would be one for each season. Review of Songs Of Innocence and Experience - William Blake by
maiamounsher
Advantages: insightful visionary inspired
Disadvantages: cryptic if you're thick
Songs of Innocence and of Experience is an enlightening piece of literature. Blake is a visionary well ahead of his times in his opinions on sexism, racism, individualism, religion, free love, sexuality, equality, unity etc etc. Blake was inspired by the old testement and christianity but his views were so radical and controversial that he was ostriced by the christians of his time. Songs of innocence and of experience reflects this in many of its ... ...cryptic man and although his songs had their lullaby appeal they also had something very deep and very serious to say.
if you've ever wondered about the progression of man from a basic animal with simple needs to the complicated creature living in a metropolitan world abiding by rules, working for the rat race, then you'll identify with this collection of songs and you have to read it. if you only ever read one poem from this collection make it ...

The Flowers of Evil and the Infinite Music
Review of The Flowers of Evil - Charles Baudelaire by
Mr_Farlock
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...my star so pale,
Under the mists of a vast canopy, I put out to sail; My chest heaves forward, my lungs fill like canvas in a gale,
I scale the backs of waves that swell below the night's veil; I feel the tremble in me of all passions a vessel suffers through;
A good wind, a storm and its convulsions, walls of endless blue
Rock me. At other times, it's flat, calm and immense, a mirror
Of my despair!
A few words about me... My name’s Daniele, ... ...poetry introduced symbolism. The only volume of his poems published in his lifetime, Les Fleurs du mal (1857) was publicly condemned as obscene, and six of the poems were suppressed. Later it was recognized as a masterpiece. Baudelaire's personality was marked by rebelliousness, and an intense religious mysticism. The main theme of his poetry is the inseparable nature of beauty and corruption. Many people think Baudelaire’s poetry is distressing, ...

A Delightful Tale of Wine and Hashish
Review of On Wine And Hashish - Charles Baudelaire by
heideroosjes
Advantages: A telling recollection of encounters with narcotics and alcohol
Disadvantages: short
...highly publicised, Britain’s favourite book, on BBC 2, we can’t help but find love in our favourite books. They may have changed our lives or simply given us a brief spell of entertainment. What they have done is fill that gap that television or other pastimes cannot account for. It is with great regret that here ends my somewhat short prologue into a book of great wealth and intrigue for it has fascinated and helped me understand a part of history ... ...intriguingly analysed in his masterpiece, On Wine and Hashish. Dying at the age of 46 having contracted syphilis, Baudelaire’s work remains bright and inspiring to this very day. It would be hard to compare modern writers to this genius as that flair and passion for writing appears to have ebbed somewhat in recent years.
Baudelaire’s On Wine and Hashish is an eloquent reminder of Parisian indulgence and romanticism: the very language used in this ...

Upon Westminster Bridge + London
Review of The Complete Writings - William Blake by
joewcarpenter
Advantages: Two great poems!
Disadvantages: N/A
...and Blake's poems. What do the poems tell you about the differing attitudes towards the city?
The two poems tell us a lot about the poet's respective attitudes towards the city. We learn of their (occasionally) differing attitudes towards industrialisation, nature and the like. We can observe how the two poets have used different techniques such as structure, rhyme, imagery etc. to enhance their messages.
The poet William Wordsworth was born in ... ...whole by producing some of the greatest works in history. He was educated at grammar school and lived much of his life in amongst the northern lakes in the heart of the Lake District. The poet, artist, and printmaker William Blake on the other hand was not quite as orthodox. Largely unrecognized during his lifetime, Blake's work is today considered seminal and significant in the history of both poetry and the visual arts. Once considered mad for ...
