Dear Room
Advantages: honest and thought provoking. Disadvantages: some work maybe seen as to short.
...longest in the book with Dear Room, this is writen in italics all the way through to show the author recolecting his experiences as a child going around china and japan. Number thirteen is 'The Crazy Room' and looks at a room being turned completly upside down and the strange goings on. Forteeen is 'Pieces of Sky', rather short but nice none the less. Fifhteen is 'What's Keeping Me' and is in the mind of someone waiting for the other to come to bed. ... ...book over all - Dear Room is a very good book indeed and showcases a great level of talent from the Author Hugo Williams, he covers a variety of topics but at all times has the constant themes of love, loss and the pondering of memories. All writen in a style which is easy for the reader to access and paints pictures in the mind from vivid emotion to the light heartedness of joy and mischief. ...

Hugo Williams - an all round nice book!
Advantages: Well writen, easy to get to grips with, interesting. Disadvantages: Not as good as the later two books.
This is the first book of this kind by Hugo Williams which was published on Faber and Faber in 1994, the later two being 'Billy's Rain' 1999 and 'Dear Room' 2006. Although this book was published in 1994 the topics that it covers are from alot earlier time and that shows in alot of the story's by Williams, for instance alot of them cover his parents and his childhood in the 1950's and 60's and then his early career. Where as in the later books the ... ...easily be set at any time and do not have a date or event in them that tells of the time period that is being discussed. As I stated before in this book alot of the story's are ones which tell the story of his parents, and these are also the longest story's that are in the book. The First one that you come to in the book is titled 'Margaret Vyner' and is very different to any work that is in the book and to what he has done since, as it states with ...

Great Introdcution to Poetry
Advantages: Nice poems, bright and colourful Disadvantages: Not as engaging as other childrens books
...really heard before. The cover of the book is bright blue and has the title in nice bubble letters which are all a different colour across the front and lots of different pictures all around this. The back cover is also bright blue and again has lots of pictures covering it showing a variety of different things. Upon opening the book the first page has a lovely little space where your child can write their own name so people will know that the book ... ...of the book and the names of all the poems included. The book is split into 2 different sections the first being, HapolooKangaroo and the second, Higglety, Pigglety, Pop. Both of the sections have 20 poems in. I am not going to individually list all of the poems included in this book as it would make for a massive list but to name just a few we have, Hen’s Song
Tiger
Hey Diddle Diddle
The Kettle
Clocks and Watches
A Boy Went Walking

A load of rubbish? nope, pure nonsense!
Advantages: Funny, classics, a way to get kids into poetry, clever... Disadvantages: None
...years. He is described on the back of my book as 'the inventor of the limerick'. Lear was born in 1812, and throughout his childhood he suffered from epilepsy and depression. He was brought up and educated by two of his sisters, in this education they read him a lot of poetry and taught him to draw, two subjects which I feel the world owes them for A Book of Nonsense was published in 1846, using the pseudonym Derry Down Derry. This wasn't the only ... ...one. Only 6 years later the second edition of the book was published. The Owl and the Pussy Cat, which I'm pretty convinced is the best known of his Nonsense Songs was also the first, written in 1867, and the book Nonsense Songs followed in 1870. Lear died in 1888 at the age of 75. This is a very condensed history, but this is because I am only reviewing he Book of Nonsense and Nonsense Songs. I've researched the claim that Lear was the inventor ...

When I am dead my dearest
Advantages: - Disadvantages: -
...pages of the book. Goblin Market, the title poem, is one of her best known - and it tells a wonderful story . Two girls, led by calling goblin voices, go down to the river, where a goblin offers to sell them some fruit if they can pay for it. As she has no money, they offer to sell her some for a lock of her golden hair, which she duly snips off and gives to them. She tastes the fruit, and it's delicious, so delicious that she craves more, but having ... ...in essence, that is what Goblin Market, the main feature poem of this book is , simply a wonderful wondeful fairytale, written in rhyming verse that skips along at a pace that keeps you interested . Richly detailed and descriptive, it is a little old fashioned in it's language, but certainly not difficult to read, and in itself is an amazing poem. 'No thank you John' is another poem I rather enjoyed. To me the poem read like a rather civiliseed break ...
