Simple Review: Why Read??
Review of Paradise Lost - John Milton by joejanman

Advantages: Classic Literature, Entertaining and Thought Provoking
Disadvantages: Old Language, Lengthy, Very Lengthy

...casting out of Eden, hence Paradise Lost. His version of 1st book of The Bible, Genesis. It is entertaining and thought provoking, bringing a fascinating chain of events into a story accesible by the people of his time. I really enjoyed reading (grafting :P) through it. It was tough but extremely fullfilling, to have found it entertaining to the last and to be able to say i've read one of the all time great pieces of English literature. It is ...
...of it was based around Paradise Lost. If you like fantasy (or perhaps reality?), were prepared to get a grasp on the language and, in all seriousness, were prepared to spend the next few years of your life reading it then read this book. Otherwise stick to modern day novels. Be warned, this is a heavy piece of English, not for the faint hearted. It's deep, long and hard to read. You have to really want to read it. I did and i enjoyed it. Hopefully ... Read review

THE REASON WHY I LOVE YEATS
Review of Poems - W.B. Yeats by robsterwest

Advantages: his poetry can transport you
Disadvantages: none

...work, life and opinions. Three poems that I feel illustrate this idea very successfully include, “The Pity of Love”, “The Sorrow of Love” and “When You Are Old”. These three poems where also included in a special manuscript along with “White Birds” which Yeats gave to Maude Gonne as another expression of how he felt. Another aspect of Yeats’ poetry shows how, over time his actual attitude towards ...
...this poem as in other poems by Yeats, the idea of the weather is used centrally along with ethereal imagery to convey deep power, thus reflecting Yeats’ pain. The poem has also been described as a mystical encapsulation of Yeats’ insecurities over his beloved. This is also reflected in the idea Yeats conveys that Maude actually has a vulnerable frigidity toward his love, a fragile love. The actual language Yeats uses to convey these ... Read review

great australian poet
Review of Poems 1980-1994 - John Kinsella by alcidebava

Advantages: Surveys the scene of Kinsella's work
Disadvantages: becoming dated, though still highly relevant

...'Visitants.' This volume contains poems written from Kinsella's early youth and from every book of verse he has published from 1980-1994. It is a very useful introduction to the poet's work and quite quickly the reader is awed at the breaktaking range of styles and forms Kinsella is more than competent with. Kinsella is a highly experimental poet and this alone justifies an anthology of his work at so young an age. This book will conciliate you ... Read review

A masterpiece.
Review of The Crucible: A Play in Four Acts (Penguin Modern Classics) - Arthur Miller by ExtraordinaryGirl

Advantages: Powerful and gripping storyline, Great contributions of all characters
Disadvantages: None that I have found

Written by Arthur Miller in the early 1950s during the time of the McCarthyism when the government blacklisted accused communists. Miller was also summoned in court and he wrote this play as a parable and links the Salem witch-hunt and the McCarthy trials which took place nearly 250 years apart. A very powerful play and an excellent one to study for GCSE English Literature for its revoloutionary work in the theatre and its portrayal of the human ...
