As much applicable to children as the politically minded adult
Advantages: Really good read, accessible, easy going Disadvantages: Mixed messages, a bit 'visionary' at times!
If you enjoy very linguistically difficult poetry then I am not sure that this is the collection for you. However, if you like deep poetry which is accessible to you and your children then this book is great. Many of the students at my school study it at A level and love it but this does not mean that this book is only for the academic, quite the opposite is true! Blake was writting for children which means his work is just as applicable to children ... ...I studied this collection myself when I was at school and I still read it now. "My heart is at rest within my breast and everything else is still". I think it is a masterpiece of langauge, something which I have carried with me over the years as great poetry. My only wish is that I had one of the plates he made with his poetry on them! ...

Upon Westminster Bridge + London
Advantages: Two great poems! Disadvantages: N/A
...and Blake's poems. What do the poems tell you about the differing attitudes towards the city?
The two poems tell us a lot about the poet's respective attitudes towards the city. We learn of their (occasionally) differing attitudes towards industrialisation, nature and the like. We can observe how the two poets have used different techniques such as structure, rhyme, imagery etc. to enhance their messages.
The poet William Wordsworth was born in ... ...whole by producing some of the greatest works in history. He was educated at grammar school and lived much of his life in amongst the northern lakes in the heart of the Lake District. The poet, artist, and printmaker William Blake on the other hand was not quite as orthodox. Largely unrecognized during his lifetime, Blake's work is today considered seminal and significant in the history of both poetry and the visual arts. Once considered mad for ...

Illuminate Your Life
Advantages: Goes with his Poetry, Beautiful, Original, Unique, Awe-Inspiring, Revelating.. need I go on? Disadvantages: Expensive to buy, Hard to get hold of
I hear the confused "Huh?" as the newbie Blake fan sees "Illuminated Works" because William Blake was a famous poet wasn't he? Well.. yes, a famous poet he is, but his first ambition in life was to be an artist. In many respects, his poetry was written to match his paintings, which are awe inspiring in themselves.
I'm not a big art fan or critic, I really flounder when I try to analyse art, but because I love William Blake so much I feel obligated ... ...William Blake was one of the greatest engravers in english history.
That's a fact, stated right there, you can go and look it up if you don't believe me. Who knows about it? Not many people - he is underappreciated! At this point if your confused and thinking "What's she on about, who the hell is this Blake guy?" I advise you read my opinion on William Blake in General, and then on his poetry, it'll all make a lot more sense then.

Great Introdcution to Poetry
Advantages: Nice poems, bright and colourful Disadvantages: Not as engaging as other childrens books
...really heard before. The cover of the book is bright blue and has the title in nice bubble letters which are all a different colour across the front and lots of different pictures all around this. The back cover is also bright blue and again has lots of pictures covering it showing a variety of different things. Upon opening the book the first page has a lovely little space where your child can write their own name so people will know that the book ... ...of the book and the names of all the poems included. The book is split into 2 different sections the first being, HapolooKangaroo and the second, Higglety, Pigglety, Pop. Both of the sections have 20 poems in. I am not going to individually list all of the poems included in this book as it would make for a massive list but to name just a few we have, Hen’s Song

A load of rubbish? nope, pure nonsense!
Advantages: Funny, classics, a way to get kids into poetry, clever... Disadvantages: None
...years. He is described on the back of my book as 'the inventor of the limerick'. Lear was born in 1812, and throughout his childhood he suffered from epilepsy and depression. He was brought up and educated by two of his sisters, in this education they read him a lot of poetry and taught him to draw, two subjects which I feel the world owes them for A Book of Nonsense was published in 1846, using the pseudonym Derry Down Derry. This wasn't the only ... ...one. Only 6 years later the second edition of the book was published. The Owl and the Pussy Cat, which I'm pretty convinced is the best known of his Nonsense Songs was also the first, written in 1867, and the book Nonsense Songs followed in 1870. Lear died in 1888 at the age of 75. This is a very condensed history, but this is because I am only reviewing he Book of Nonsense and Nonsense Songs. I've researched the claim that Lear was the inventor ...
