It was 28th June, 1987 at 7-30 PM when I reached Thrissur, my home town in my native state of Kerala in India, hearing that my mother was seriously ill and was admitted to a hospital. I had to fly from Dubai the previous night via Kuwait and Goa, rather than by a direct flight to my state capital. When I reached the hospital, it was too late and she had passed away, just ten minutes prior to my arrival at the hospital.
I looked at ... ...whole world ripped apart in front of me. Those eyes would never look at me again, those lips would never smile and she would not call my name any more. Her bosom which transfused life into me would never heave again and her hands would no longer hold mine and she would never hug me again. My throat choked, my heart twinged, my eyes let out a flood of tears and I wept without any inhibition.
I looked at her motionless body. The earth seemed to stop and the whole world ripped apart in front of me.
On the fifth day of her death, I carried an urn containing her mortal remains and I travelled to a nearby village to immerse her ashes in a river. I burst out hysterically when I immersed her ashes in the water and I let the urn still containing some ashes, go along with the flow of the water. I stood motionless while the urn disappeared unto the horizon. Today, it is 19 long years since she departed for her heavenly abode. I am sure she is blessing me from there and leading me wherever I go and whatever I do.
I once dreamt of her and what I could understand of the dream, I wrote down the next morning when I got up. I am presenting it in the form of a few lines below.
********************************************************************** "All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother. I remember my mother's prayers and they have always followed me. They have clung to me all my life."…Abraham Lincoln
Advantages: A Christmas poem for Ciao members Disadvantages: Sorry if I have not included you all
Hello COT, do some of you remember Miss American Pie by Don MClean? This is my Christmas tribute to you all in festive vein.
Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a Snowbunni was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by Mrsmopples with care,
In hopes that St Loopymum soon would be there.
Terry and Art were nestled all snug in their beds,
While idioms and identity crises played hell with their heads.
... ...Zippo,
Had just settled their brains for a long winter's kippo.
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
Kirst sprang from her bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window, shouts, 'What is all this crap?',
'You've woken me up and your in for a slap!'.
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave lustre to coat of sleek Alleycat below.
When, what to her wondering eyes should appear,
But the figure of Lindsey, calling, ...

Been racking my brains whether to publish this but my Bro said that he would like me too.
His son, my oldest Nephew, died at the age of 18 after a car accident, early December 2006.
We are all finding it very difficult to get back into the swing of being more than just ghosts of our former selves.
For you 'blue' and your Father.
SAPPHIRES
When you arrived on this cold world
Your eyes were open from the first
They were a sparkling Sapphire ... ...into bed at night
And hold your tiny hand so tight
You'd cuddle up to your Loy Loy bear
And get a great big kiss goodnight
On Saturday's we'd shop up town
We'd walk that well worn mile
Friend's would stroke your fine blonde hair
And laugh at your cheeky smile
As you grew up you grew so broad
And life took up new pace
It almost seemed you knew too much You lived life like a race
Your little brother and sister
Would wait at the airport ...

I have spent a couple of weeks now getting used to this site and have written a couple of reviews based on my collection of girly films and cheesy pop music! However, I noticed that many people had written creative writing type pieces that were not reviewing products and I toyed with the idea of submitting one of my poems for several days as I hate people reading my work (it's not so good!) but in the end I have decided to go for it (I'm still not ... ...I thought I would submit this poem that I wrote a while ago after seeing a news story about drink driving. I don't drive myself but I have certainly made my share of bad decisions after a few glasses and wanted to demonstrate how it can happen to anyone and how one bad decision made in a weak moment can change your whole future, and that of others. I hope it's OK and you don't find it too awful! I'm really nervous!

All because of you is about coping with death and other things that aren’t so rosy in life. At the end is who it is dedicated to and why. I hope that you read on in this poem and enjoy! Thank you for your time.
I saw you lying there,
Lying helpless in front of me,
With tubes coming out of you,
Coming out and going back in.
You had always been there to hold my hand,
Hold my hand when things got tough,
But now you’re just going,
Going somewhere ... ...You came home for father’s day,
Father’s day was the last,
The last day that I’ll ever see you again,
The last day, please help me.
We gave you chocolate,
Chocolate and cards,
You gave the chocolate to us,
With a smile upon your face,
And said I love you.
So, we scooted off up to bed,
Going to bed with smiles upon our faces,
Because our dad loved us,
And we thought he was getting better.
If only I had said something more to you,
To ...

Advantages: Reading poetry makes you look sensitive in front of birds Disadvantages: Not as easy as watching telly
I've had pretty much no energy lately. I think it may be something to do with the fact that I have been carrying out my own version of Morgan Spurlock's "Supersize Me" called "Beef-and-Tomato-Pot-Noodle Me". I don't seem to have gained as much weight as that dude did, but I have noticed that I've been a bit more confused lately, and I don't think I can see the colour green as well as I used to.
Anyway, I decided that I needed to motivate myself, ... ...more inspirational to me than the music off the Bodyform advert, so I went down to HMV all full of hope, but it turns out that that shit is Not Available in the Shops. By this point, I was pretty much ready to blow my brains out, but then I remembered this shit-hot poem that we did in English once that is by the guy who wrote the Jungle Book (before he got pissed off with writing and went to bake exceedingly good cakes instead).
The poem, as you ...

Advantages: They create vivid imagery Disadvantages: They are sometimes hard to identify
Anyone studying English Language and Literature for GCSE has to be able to analyse poetry, and recognising figures of speech and being able to quote them and comment on them will make any essay more impressive. There again, actually using them yourself in creative writing or descriptive writing brings your work alive and gives it an extra dimension. Various figures of speech are explained here; the examples quoted are from the AQA Anthology for GCSE English Language and Literature (Specification A) for 2005 onwards. (The book is published by Oxford University Press but is only distributed in secondary schools; copies can sometimes be found on Ebay.)

I have recently discovered the pleasure there is to be had by looking at amateurish attempts at poetry. Take this anonymous example from an in-house magazine published by the Royal Infirmary, Leicester.
My Stay At The Royal (June 2004)
The Nurses down at the ?Royal?
Are all angels in disguise
Their hands are so gentle and tender
And caring reflects in their eyes
They all do so many duties
To make our stay easy to bear
We?re washed and we?re fed and made comfy
Which shows they really do care
These angels are all special people
With smiles for the weak and the lame
They all do their best for the patients
Without asking for medals or fame
They ask us for blood and for water
And inject us with things in our arms
They then give us pills by the dozen
And smile with all tender and charm
I know I?ll go home feeling better ...

Advantages: Poetry in motion Disadvantages: Does is all have to rhyme?
I've had this debate on numerous occasions and it really makes me quite sad
About the qualities of poetry, you know, the good and the bad
I think the most important thing about poetry is the subject of rhyming
The second most important is the words you use; the third is all about timing
Put them all together and hey - tell me what have you got?
You've got the rhythm and the rhyme of a subject that hits the spot!
You see, it's not so much the subject as what you say about it
You can dress it up or dress it down, recite it but definitely don't shout it
Because the fourth most important thing about the poem, is that when it's been writ
Is the art of delivering it to other people who really want to hear it
The seventh rule is to include your grammar so people will know how to read
They establish the rhythm, like a piece of music ...
