Advantages: Auto-mapping, random dungeons Disadvantages: Awkward item management, poor speed-up function
...personality quiz to determine which Pokemon the player is - the story being how did this change happen? - and then you get to pick a team mate whom to form a rescue team with.
THUMBS-UP:
The auto-map so players do not get lost on a floor.
Being able to take up numerous jobs from the Bulletin Board and then tackle those of a location together.
Recruiting Pokemon does not involve Pokeballs.
... ...and Tactics of the other Pokemon on the team.
You have a limited inventory but the game's interface makes item management awkward. Also, it feels rather long-winded to use a feature that becomes available after completion.
Movement in the dungeons can be speeded up which seems to be handy, but either your character stops at each junction or overshoots to let the enemies take initiative in battle.

THUMBS-DOWN: Having to rely on the IQ and Tactics of the other Pokemon on the team.

The story-telling isn't great at times, with use of flashbacks for incidents which happened literally minutes ago.
VISUAL: Use of small sprites, where clouds passing by and animate plants breathe life into the central hub area but the dungeons themselves are bland.
AUDIO: There are a couple of pleasant themes, but in some of the dungeons it's a case of, "repeat a passage a number of times, then again but in a different key, and then loop". Sound effects are lacking.
SUMMARY: Dungeons are truly random in the sense that the starting point on the floor can be that to proceed to the next! The difficulty of the game can vary since you and your team-mate are fixed members of the rescue team hence set strengths and weaknesses. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red Rescue Team lasted me around 15 hours, which is decent, and there are extras to seek afterwards. However, the slow interface meant I won't be hasty to return to further play the game.
