Do you remember about a year ago what the big craze among the kids was? Yeah, it's easy to forget isn't it because things change so quickly and fads are intended to be shortlived and trashy, just ask those Teenage Mutant Ninja Hero Turtles what life's like on the Social...
Well, let me remind you because obviously the memory cells are dulled through watching Power Rangers films and listening to S Club 7 records - I'm talking Pokemon, Pocket Monsters, Gotta Catch 'Em All, Pika-Pika-Pika-CHU!!!! and all that goldarned trash.
12 months ago, Lewis dave27 went through a very strange period in his life. At the best of times he's a little grabber who just has to HAVE things to say he's got them. He was mad for Pokemon and ate, slept and breathed the craze.
I remember driving him and his mate over to Blackpool to see the James Bond film, 'The World Is Not Enough' - they started muttering unintelligibly in the back of the car - "Wigglypuff, Charizard, Blastoise, but Mewtwo's the best you dick!"
Apparently these are Pokemon creatures, and are characters from a phenomenon which embraces trading card games, TV cartoons, movies and websites and you're supposed to train the little dudes and help them evolve into yet greater monsters as you become the master of all you survey thanks to your little collection of cuddly beasties.
It got so bad at one time that Lewis' school banned all the kids from taking in cards and he got caught with some - Mrs Atkinson (a fearsome, werewolf of a woman) CONFISCATED HIS BEST CARD and stuck it in the shredder - boy, what a rush! He was up for revenge by Bazooka I can tell you.
Now, I wouldn't mind, but things soon got well out of hand. One of his mates started accusing Lewis and others of stealing his best cards and nagged his mother into ringing round to check whether anyone had taken them - things got well heavy for a while. In the end we found that the careless little sod had lost them in his own bedroom.
That was enough for us and Pokemon cards were rapidly banned at our house. We managed to get Lewis off the craze just as it was taking hold.
Take my advice, everything in moderation...

Review of Pokemon
Advantages: Gameplay galore and a lot of fun to be had, a good hobby. Disadvantages: Kids know more about Pokemon than they do about geography, now, a bad thing indeed.

Review of Pokemon
Advantages: Highly customisable, promotes social interaction,, popular (for the moment) with the children Disadvantages: Prices in the West are ridiculous. Some cards no longer available. Odds of getting premium cards too high.
