The thing you have to take into account with this Polaroid camera is that even though auto focus is provided as a feature on the camera, it is not very effective in the sense that the person taking the photograph as well as the target person or people have to remain consistently still to allow an effective print-out to be produced.

The Polaroid 1200I also has built-in automatic flash, which is always used no matter if it is day or night. In good light conditions the flash is still used, but has no significant effect on the end-result. This is simply because the flash light is not as strong as natural day light. The flash like on all cameras is really intended for low light conditions, i.e. dark rooms or at night. The flash is only seen as a disadvantage if you have to stand further away than the recommended flash light limit when taking a photo. The only possible solution to this would be to take photos of a number of people in the day time rather than at night.

With pictures being produced instantly, Polaroid cameras require different film to all other types of camera. The Polaroid 1200I gets its name from the size and type of film it uses. The type of film it uses is known as spectra and comes in a size of 3.6 x 2.9 inches, which in millimeters (mm) is 900 x 725. The film consists of tiny crystals, which are produced by a range of chemicals. The crystals are aligned in rows with electromagnetic fields, making them dichroic. Dichroic is simply the term given to the aligned crystals, and refers to the polarization of each crystal and the crystals ability to absorb different amounts of light. So, with the use of the polarized (ability to absorb different amounts of light) crystals Polaroid cameras produce high-definition image results. This is because the film acts as a mirror and absorbs the light parallel or opposite to it. i.e. the people or object in front of it.

So, being able to take great quality pictures, the Polaroid 1200I would be great for day-outs where you would be able to take great and memorable photos. However, you have to take into account all your photographs would be identical in the sense that the photo taker and the photo target have to remain quite still. So, taking pictures of moving people or objects would be virtually impossible as the technology used is advanced, but not advanced enough to capture moving things. The Polaroid 1200I would be great for taking photos of sceneries as the results would be instant as well as being of great quality.

Even though production of Polaroid cameras has stopped the film is still being sold by many online shops. The film the Polaroid 1200I uses is basically known as 1200 film and can be bought for around £25-£30.

Overall, the Polaroid 1200I is great for any occasion, including holidays or just simple days out. Even though Polaroid cameras are becoming less popular, they are still very cost-effective regarding that you get great quality pictures instantly for not a very high price. Whereas with cameras utilizing newer technologies (digital cameras) , you would have to travel to shops to get your photos processed and would have to maybe wait for 1 hour or more to get your processed photos. And in the process you would be spending more money, which is not the case with Polaroid cameras. Although, you will still have to spend quite a lot of money on Polaroid film, which in packs of over 24 is almost the same price as the camera itself. Plus, the camera film is not re-usable so if you get a photo wrong you would have to throw it away, thus wasting money. Which is why they are becoming less popular with young and energetic people.

I really like Polaroid cameras and would definitely recommend the Polaroid 1200I to anyone looking for great quality instant photos, without the hassle of traveling to shops to get them processed. However, I would not recommend them to the younger generation as they would think of them as old fashioned and too big to carry around.
