Advantages: Non bias, covers most ideologies, very indepth Disadvantages: Some political concepts could be further explored
For me, Heywood's political Ideologies provides a brilliant overview of the main political ideologies - Liberalism, socialism, conservatism, anarchism, nationalism, feminism, fascism, multiculturalism, ecologism, religious fundamentalism - and goes onto mentioning the sub-ideologies within - libertarianism, nazism etc - as well.

Many of these include Socialism, Conservatism, Liberalism, Marxism, Ecologism and Religious Fundamentalism. With each ideology in its own section, he discusses the different strands within the ideology (for example Classical AND Modern Liberalism) and discusses them at length. He will take you through the core values of each of the ideologies to get a good grasp about what the ideology stands for, believes in and doesn't believe in. I found this incredibly ...
