So pomegranate is "the new blueberry" apparently! therfore, I gave it a try.

The fruit

Pomegranate (Punica granatum) Comes from the pomegranate shrub/tree. Usually found in dry, hot countries and orignated from iran and then it was adopted by India. The fruit is kind of round 2- to 5 in. . it has a kind of tough, leathery skin. The colour is lovely! It's a very attractive fruit. Inside, the fruit is fleshy but that bit that you are supposed to eat is the red juicy seeds. High temperatures in the country of growth bring out the best flavour.
The pomegranate plays a key part in the Greek myth explaining the origin of the seasons - the story of Demeter Goddess of agriculture.

The health bit

Blueberries are a superfood as well as the pomegranate although now it has been suggested that pomegranates are generally better for you.
And they are very good for you too. Pomegreat juice contains eight pomegranates and that is alot of wonderfully sweet and refreshing nutrition packed juice! Pomegreate is packed with antioxidants which help fight cholestrol which lead to heart attacks- clearly very good for you. pomegranate juice has nearly three times as many antioxidants as red wine and orange juice. (there goes your excuse for drinking wine!)
one 250ml glass of Pomegreat provides: half the RDA of vitamins ACE. Vitamin E is useful for fertility so if you're a woman drink this! It also provides 100% RDA of folic acid.
Research also suggests that pomegranate jucie can possibly fight against prostate cancer. It's also free from anything artificial which is good especially if you want the kids to have something nutritous for a change.

The Taste

In my opinion pomegranate juice and indeed pomegreat is the best tasting juice. I love orange juice, but its very sharp and tangy, but pomegreat juice is more mellow yet the taste is very refreshing. It's also sweet but not too sweet. I can't drink orange juice really early in the morning because it's too sharp and makes me feel sick so if you're like me, pomegreat would be right for youideal because the flavour is not too bold its much more fresh and mellow. It's sounds odd but it tastes so good, it's almost as if you can feel the goodness entering your body.

I

ngredients

According to the information on the carton-

Fruit juices from concentrate 37% (pomegranate 30%, Aronia berry), water. fruit extract concentrate, flavourings, Vitamins: C E A & folic acid.

Well sounds ok, but theres actually only 37% fruit juice and only 30% of that is pomegranate. It would obviously be better if there was more pomegranate content and wasn't from concentrate so this is clearly a bit of a bad point. however the juice does not contain any artificial colours, preservatives or sweetners.

per serving there is just 110 calories. Won't kill your diet.

Price and packaging

Pomegreat is a tad pricey- pomegrate original is around £1.50 for 1 litre and pomegreat 100, which i have not tried is £3.25 in Asda. However I think that £1.50 is worth it but I am not convinced that pomegreat 100 is worth £3.20 but I'll give it a go (it has ten pomegranates in it) I guess that pomegranate juice is the more expensive of the other members of the juice family because you only have the seeds in the pomegranate and i expect it takes a long time to actually retrieve these seeds. The packaging is a little erm...I'm not quite sure how to describe it, It makes the product look healthy but maybe it looks a little like they are trying to enforce the drink on you.

Different Pomegreat products

Original pomegreat is definately my favourite out of the two I have tried. I have also tried pomegranate and blueberry which I didn't like as much because I felt bluberries upset the pomegranate taste but it is still very nice and I would buy it again but I'd just prefer the oringinal pomegreat.
I havn't yet tried Pomegranate and raspberry but I will and it looks very nice but I'm worried again, the raspberries may upset the taste of the pomegranates.
I havn't tried pomegreat 100 as it is very expensive as discussed before. Although the packaging is very appealing and it looks even tastier. It has 10 pomegranates instead of eight, thus making it even more healthy. It is kept in the fresh jucie section of the supermarket (refridgerators) instead of the shelves where the other juices are.

Give it a try :-)
