SUNJET 150 SOLAR PUMP - PUMPED UP & HAPPY !!!
Advantages: No electric cable Disadvantages: needs direct sunlight
Hi, I thought I would tell you about this pump. I hope you find it useful and would appreciate your feedback.
************WHY************
Ok, well the reason I got this pump was basically because I really fancied having a beautiful focal point in my garden. I have been to other peoples gardens who have a water feature and always thought there is nothing nicer than relaxing in the garden with a cold drink as you listen to the gentle sound of trickling ... ...ideal and not too expensive.
**********COST***********
I bought this on-line and paid £25.99 which I do think is pretty ok. Beware if you are looking to buy this as the price really can vary from shop to shop. I think the dearest I saw was £39.99 (BIG DIFFERENCE)
NOTE - This is only the pump and not the bowl (if you want to have a bird bath), but is all you need for a pond. As for any other costs - there aren't any !!!! Because it is a solar powered ...

THE HEART OF A GOOD POND
Advantages: Solid build quality, good price, powerful and constant water flow Disadvantages: No hose supplied if pump is to be used to feed a filter box or waterfall
...or waterfall. Step forward the Hozelock Cyprio range of pond pumps - a compact and powerful pump that can feed a waterfall, fountain or filter as choice dictates - or indeed all three at the same time! ● Calculating the size of pump required relative to pond size ● Of course for the pump to work effectively it has to be capable of moving the required amount of water at the correct rate, ideally the pump should be circulating at least ... ...comparison work I purchased a Hozelock Cyprio Cascade 2000 for £59 from www.thefactoryshops.co.uk. ● What's in the box? ● Well most importantly you get the pump itself, made from toughened plastic it has a foam free plastic inlet cage to ensure less cleaning is required to keep the pump working properly. Depending on whether you got the standard pump or the LV model (low voltage) there will be a power pack to lower the electric being ...

GET THE GREEN GUNGE OUT OF YOUR LIFE..
Advantages: All in one solution. Neat and tidy. Disadvantages: Needs setting up prior to installation.
...Alternatively, the filter in the FishMate gets clogged with the blighters and you have to clean them off periodically. The water overflows from the first chamber into the second chamber where the filtration is. There are two sponge elements, one for coarse and one for fine sifting. Once through these, the water goes through a biological filter. This consists of special rocks that have a massive surface area in relation to their size. Bacteria naturally ... ...to rinse these rocks in a couple of buckets of pond water prior to installation. Don't use tap water as the chlorine does not make a good environment for the bacteria - quite the opposite in fact.
After biological filtration, there are two outlets (looks like a sexy twin exhaust on your car) and the water is then taken back to the pond and, in my case, a soothing waterfall!
In the initial stages, you will be cleaning the two sponges daily. After ...

Fish Mate 4000 Pond Pump
Advantages: Efficient, easy to install, easy to keep clean Disadvantages: None so far
As my pump was getting old and was really too small for the pond, I decided to buy a new one. Having already installed a Fish Mate UV+Bio Filter a year ago, which I have been very pleased with, I opted to purchase a pump of the same type. I chose the 4000 which has a maximum flow of 835 gallons an hour, has an anti-clog filter design, has superior wear resistance and reported to have low running costs. It also has a fountain set with four options. ... ...pump I set to to install it. It was very easy to do, but I did make the mistake of not checking the size of hose required when I purchased it and discovered that mine was too small. I was cross with myself as I wanted to get it set up that day, so I would advise anyone buying this particular model that they make sure they have a 1" or 1.1/4" bore hose.
The pump has now been installed for two months and I am finding it extremely efficient. The anti-clog ...

IS YOUR POND GREEN THEN USE A UV STERILISER
Advantages: sturdy, reliable, easy to get new bulbs. Disadvantages: none.
...So I bought a Yamitsu 30watt UV sterilizer in the summer of 1997, which cost me £79, although slightly underpowered, (as it is recommended to have 10watts per 1000 gallons) it was the most I wanted (or could afford) to shell out, as I was doubtful if it would clear the troublesome green water.
Installation was started the next morning, this entailed the cutting of one of the pipes from the pump, and fitting the uv unit in-line on this cut pipe, ... ...own jubilee clips to complete this. The unit must be sheltered from the worst of the elements, mine is covered by some old pond liner. It has to be plugged into the mains, but it is supplied with a 10mtr cable, so it has a reasonable range to it, I would also recommend that you use a power breaker when plugging this or any other outside appliance into the mains electricity supply. The pump was turned on, and with no leaks apparent, it was now time ...
