I am only 20, so was fairly reluctant to start using something that seemed very much aimed at the more 'mature' customer but this has been surprisingly successful and I would certainly recommend anyone to try it.

I love spending obscene amounts of money on pricey beauty and particularly skin care, and was just about to purchase Eve Lom cleanser (said by Vogue to be the best in the world) and was checking some reviews of it when I came across one from someone that had begun using Eve Lom, then realised that the key to its success was in the use of a muslin cloth that came with it, not necessarily the cleanser itself.

Basically the idea is to slather the cleanser on, soak a muslin cloth in hand hot water, press it onto your face, then rinse the cloth in cool water and use it to remove the cleanser in small circular motions. The reviewer claimed that Eve Lom was a rip off (£40) and that the same application/removal technique with Ponds Cold cream did wonders for the skin. At only around £2.50 for a jar of Ponds and roughly £4.00 for a big pack of muslin squares from Boots, I thought I may as well give it a go before shelling out for the Eve Lom cleanser.

Skin Type -
I had great skin until about a year ago when I began to get acne type spots in certain areas (red, stayed under the surface for ages, left a little purplish scar). I started taking a contraceptive pill to help with my skin, which helped a lot but I still seemed to have problem skin. I was using a face wash twice a day packed with salicylic acid etc to prevent spots, which I thought was a good idea but started leaving my face dry and red in areas. I realise now that this was probably the point when the pill kicked in (after about 3 months) and oil production calmed down so my skin (which is really quite sensitive) was being dryed out far too much, This combined with the benzoyl peroxide cream I used for getting rid of spots meant my poor skin was way over-processed. I still had a fear that if I stopped using all this stuff, my skin would have a serious breakout but on close examination of my skin, I realised that many of, what I thought were spots, were actually just little scars from old ones. In fact I only had 2 or 3 actual spots, which was when I realised I needed to use a gentle cleanser that cleansed deep down without drying, that I didn't need to use anything else with (toner moisturiser)in order to give my skin a break, this was when I looked into buying Eve Lom and saw the recommensation for Pond's.

Results -
I started using Pond's with the muslin cloth (once in the morning once at night) and have noticed a real difference. The dry patches are going, my skin tone seemed more even, my skin just felt more nourished and comfortable and the scars left by previous spots seem to be fading faster. I haven't been using it that long and still have one or two spots but they are on their way out. It might feel weird to someone with spotty skin, as it does leave a slight residue on your skin but I truly believe that all the oil-stripping products used for acne can make it worse, especially if you have sensitive skin. All you really need to do is make sure the skin is really clean (which is all this does) and have a spot busting type treatement (tea tree oil or suchlike) on hand for any spots that appear to speed the healing process up. I only need a moisturiser now if I wear foundation, which is great.

In short, I would recommend anyone to try this, especially if you are used to paying a lot for skincare, at around £2.50, you may as well!!
