I have one word for this car---STURDY! OK, I have another---DEPENDABLE! Sturdy as in well-built. It has never needed a MAJOR repair. The same engine and transmission still propel it on its merry way every day. Dependable as in starts every morning --- even in the dead of winter.
It has needed very few repairs for time that i have owned it. Most of them were MINOR and expected i.e. battery, tires, etc. There is a recurring problem with the thermostat and A/C hoses though. A small price to pay. Talk about LOW-MAINTENANCE.
The original paint has held up well. The body has very little rust. Therefore, it is still a fairly good-looking car.
Right now it needs a catalytic convertor. Otherwise, it has exceptional pick-up and is reasonably quiet.
The interior has held up well. No broken seats, no cracks in dashboard, etc.
In December of 1998, I gave this car to a family member who was in need and bought a 1993 Ford Probe (see opinion). If only I had known then what I know now. The Pontiac still runs strong everyday and I still miss it.

Advantages: sporty looking, quick acceleration, dependable Disadvantages: high gas consumption, very average handling
The Sunfire GT has a 150 horsepowered and 2.4 litre engine. The experience I've had is that the car is affordable and reliable. It is both suitable for young and elderly given its sporty looking shape and its reliability as a vehicle.
The vehicle has problems around engine gaskets and acceleration. These problems seem to surface when approaching 65,000-75,000 km useage. Gaskets seem to need repair at least once in the life-time of the car (at a ... ...loss of proper gear switching and acceleration after the car has accumulated kilometers. The handling is also below average, as the vehicle does not round bends at higher speeds very well (or without swearving out of lane).
The vehicle also suffers from poor gas consumption (the GT will travel 450km on a 50litre tank) given the small size of the engine. Depending where you are located, this can lead to expensive fuel consumption. Overall, the car ...

Advantages: Sporty 2.4L Twin Cam engine at 150HP Disadvantages: Depcreciates quickly, Good Dealership warranty suggested
...a short time? Pontiac Sunfire is your answer. It will be a sporty ride at 150HP and a very quick 2.4L twin cam engine. Prices are usually quite affordable in fact probably the best bang for the buck in terms of speed and sportyness.
Keep in mind you are buying an American Car. It will depreciate. In fact the sunfire is predicted to depreciate and be worth 25% of it price in 5 years of purchase.
Hot colours? Try the jet black. After a good wash ...
