Porsche 944 Review
Advantages: Fun to drive-decent gas mileage Disadvantages: expensive to maintain
...you plan on letting a Porsche Shop take care of your maintenance you better just buy a new car. Labor rates on these cars are extremely high and Porsche OEM parts are out of sight. If you are thinking of buying a 944 you definitely want some documented maintenance history on the car. These models have rubber timing belts and have Zero valve clearance. This means if you break a timing belt the pistons crash into the valves virtually destroying your ... ...ice if you don't. Porsche came out with a rubber centered clutch disc on these models. I have seen these fail with as low as 14,000 miles. Be sure your clutch has been upgraded to the metal type. Clutch job in a Porsche shop can run 2000.00 or more. Just the clutch is around 700.00. I did the clutch job on one of my 944's. It is no picnic. Not like the old american made rear wheel drive vehicles where you drop the drive shaft and pull the bell housing ...

Porsche Boxster 3.2S
Advantages: Fast, good looking, great handling, fun Disadvantages: Costs, maintenance needs
I recently bought a Porsche Boxster S 3.2. It's red with black interior, ABS, Traction Control, Trip Computer, Surround sound system and the usual Boxster bits.
I paid about £12K for this model, X reg, 84000 miles. Then the problems started:
1. Airbag light was on...needed new ECU costing £350 (dealer paid)
2. 2x new rear tyres...Michelin £200 each (dealer paid)
3. Emission Control light came on. Reset by Porsche £50...two days later, came on ... ...(dealer paid)
6. Front and rear CV gaiters needed replacing (dealer paid) 7. Front tyres needed replacing...£260
Having had all this work done, the car is brilliant. Very fast, 6 speed gearbox for shorter gear ratios. 152+ mph and 280bhp. Handles exceptionally well. 25 - 30 mpg; but driving like an old person got 35mpg.
Other needs:
1. Front brake hose needs replacing
Insurance cost £820 fully comp, tax is about £200 per annum, £70 to fill the ...

Porsche 924 - fantastic car for the money
Advantages: Retro, RWD, Cheap simple fun for very little money Disadvantages: not a 911, no practical rear seating, rare to find good interior
...be my first car, the porsche 924 would always catch my eye. In the end i was given a first car so i didnt need to purchase one. The dream of owning a porsche would have to remain in my head untilthe summer of 2005 when i purchased a 924 from my local car auctions by chance.
Unfortunately the rings had gone on the engine of this porsche but as i already knew the market for spares for the 924 was very reachable and i knew a local garage owner who ... ...miles a week in the porsche with out it missing a beat. I have complete confidence that it will get me to my destination with cannot be said for other classics and i believe it could easily do much more work if required.
The 2ltr injected engine provides plenty of power, whilst the trans-axle transmission means that the car has great weight distribution so whether on the motorway, county roads or the city the 924 is always willing. My 924 is a 1982 ...

911 Heaven
Advantages: True Drivers Car Disadvantages: Doesn't suffer fools
...were supplied by my local Porsche dealer, it is very important with these cars that you buy them from a reputable source - particularly older models - there are a lot of horror stories out there and it is easy to be bitten if you are not careful. There have been many variants of the 911 over the years so it is vital that you read up on them (there are loads of books available) and that you know what you want and match it to your budget before you ... ...reg). It is common among Porsche owners and dealers to refer to the cars using their factory designated number. The very latest cars are designated 996. In this op we are discussing the 964 and 993.
The 964 could be bought in several variants; the bog standard 911 Carrera 2, the Carrera 4 (4 wheel drive), the RS (RallyeSport - a lightweight C2) - and of course, the outrageous Turbo. "Carrera", by the way, is the name of a road race in Mexico which ...

Rendering driving into an artform
Advantages: speed;handling;comfort Disadvantages: zippy zippidy yack
...category the 911 belongs to. Porsche is one of the most famous sports cars throughout the world, its name sitting next to Ferrari and Lamborghini even though it is not a car that is as outrageously priced as its Italian competitors. Completely redesigned in 1999, the new Carrera looks like a squashed up version of the beetle. Its not as round as the beetle, but it is undoubtedly as cute. It being a sports car, its edgy ends do give it a slightly ... ...this factor. But overall, the Porsche is a cute car, neither aggressive looking as American Sports cars nor futuristic seeming as the Japanese. For a car costing around 70k, the 911 offers excellent performance with its flat-6 engine. The 300HP DOHC can rev all the way up to 6500RPM, with a 258lbs/ft of torque that is easily enough for a mini-bus. The car looks small, but it does weigh 3k of lbs. I would have thought for 70k you could get a lighter ...
