911 Heaven

Advantages: True Drivers Car
Disadvantages: Doesn't suffer fools

the name on the higher end cars but since the mid eighties, all 911's have carried the Carrera moniker. The 993 was offered as a C2, C4, Turbo 4, GT2 and S (which was a turbo bodied car with a normal engine in it and a split rear grill - David Beckham had one for a while). As if that wasn't enough, there are three body shells; the coupe, the targa and the cabriolet. Unless you really want a targa, I would leave them alone, nasty, rattley, horrible things. The 993 targa is different from earlier cars (which basically had a lift out center roof section) having a sliding glass roof, more like a big sunroof really, but quite attractive. Cabs seem to sell well but they're regarded as a bit effete. No, you want a big butch coupe, that's what you want. Gearboxes? You can have a 5 speed manual (964) or a six speed (993) or something which ...

Review of Porsche 911 Carrera 3.6 Cabriolet

A convertible Dream car.

Advantages: Ageless piece!!!
Disadvantages: Pricey!!!

The shape may have stayed the same for over 30 years with a few rounded and modified pieces but the porsche magic shines through. You can keep your Ferrari's and Lambo's. Give me a 911 anyday. I love the little spoiler that goes up and down depending on what speed you are going. I like the looks people give you when you drive it. It has to be the definative car on the road. It is ageless. It is gorgeous. It is what I want to spend my inheritance on despite the fact my conscience is telling me otherwise. IT is a very quick very chique operator on the road that never ceases to turn heads. I love this car!! ...

Review of Porsche 911 Carrera 3.4 Cabriolet

Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet Tiptronic

Advantages: Fast, reliable and practical
Disadvantages: rear seats for very young ones only but better than nothing

I used to have a Carrera 4 Cab which was quick but this car is in another power league. Internally it is identical to the non-Turbo versions but externally it has lower suspension (does not like traffic calming humps) and has air vents scooped out of both sides of the car. For those who like relaxed driving keeping revs under 4000 the 911 Turbo is like driving any executive cruise machine but floor the pedal to the metal it becomes quite simply a rocket! Insurance is expensive and fuel consumption can be challenged if driven hard but 25 MPG is easily obtainable. All in all it is a practical supercar and with Tiptronic a relaxed drive even in the city. Depreciation is better than on Ferrari's and the extra 2 (albeit small) seats make it more practical than a Mercedes SL (a 2 seater only) ...
